Would I still have Wilson's Disease after a Transplant?

0 Recommendations

Hello,

I had a transplant when I was 12 years old. I am 28 now have only had two rejections and that was after the transplant and one when I was 20 as far as I can recall. I have had a very rough between 18 and 20, because I had no medical coverage. I wasn't considered disabled, even though I had to take meds that would cost over 2,000 dollars w/o insurance. So you can only imagine I have numerous doctors bills riding on my credit. I wasn't able to get my meds so I expanded my prograf tacrolimus capsules over the years. I made to much money for assistance from the state, and couldn't be added to my mothers. I was in college and working trying to live a normal life and counted my blessings. Now after that very shaky period in my life I am now married, and HAVE MEDICAL INSURANCE!

I do have a question my Husband and I are planning to have a child. And we are curious if I still have Wilson's Disease since I have had a transplant? I am only taking "Prograf" Tacrolimus capsules.

You don't have Wilson's any longer since you have a new liver that can filter out the copper. But you do still carry the Wilson's gene. You might consider going to a genetic counsler and have your husband checked for the WD gene.
Good luck!

Thank you for the advice!
