Tourettes?

0 Recommendations

When I went in to the doctors initial testing, I first thought my condition could be explained by tourettes. She never ruled out it either, is this a common thing? I've also been reading around on the internet some, from what I gather I feel like more of my symptoms match tourettes than WD. To the best of my medical knowledge (which is none) I have never had liver problems, or eye/kindy problems, nor any jaundis. I did have elevated copper in my liver. But could that be explained by my diet?

You say you have elevated copper levels in your liver--your doctor probably should schedule a liver biopsy to confirm any lab and 24 hour urine tests if they do point to wd. Yes, diet affects copper levels but wd patients' store abnormally high amounts of copper that is toxic to the brain and liver. If you are concerned about your diet, shellfish, organ meats (liver) are the highest in copper content; beer (stored in copper vats), chocolate, nuts & seeds, dried fruits, legumes (beans), mushrooms are also high.
Zinc, taken on an empty stomach, works antogonistically to inhibit copper absorption and is available over the counter. This site has a lot of helpful information:

Hoping you get a diagnosis soon,

I do not have any real advice for you. The other response is good advice. Just stick with things. I will be thinking about you and waiting to here your results. Kitt

i know it is hard waiting for a diagnosis but go with ur heart. if that says it is tourettes then ur body knows u better than anyone. just keep pushing.

WD symptoms can resemble many other conditions, including Tourette's. The ONLY way to tell is to get the WD tests, including ceruloplasmin, urine copper, other bloodwork, and if those are not clear, a liver biopsy.

I don't mean to be argumentative, but your heart won't know -- many many people get misdiagnosed because they or (especially) their doctors jump to conclusions without doing the tests.

WD is highly treatable and usually fatal if not treated, so it's much better to know one way or the other.

I hope you get a diagnosis soon!

Best,

Ann
