Please help me to know the following.
From where I can get this?
Which brand is the best?
I've used all the brands available in India and lost all my faiths on action of the medicine and now thinking to import it( Penicillamine) from Germany but I don't know the procedure.
Am I right ?

Please help me to learn and also to survive.

Dear Anupam,

I am a Wd patient and on the same treatment since the last 25 years. Earlier, I used to take Artamin, now I am on Cilamin and Zincolac. I purchase the medicines from India only. They have worked greatly in my recovery. I would like tell you that recovery process takes some time to start. In my case it took 6-8 months of starting treatment. It was slow but stable. I therefore advise you not to lose hope and be patient.
Best wishes!
Richa

Madam Richa,
Thank you much for your precious advice.

I will be highly oblighed if you kindly inform me the name, address & contact Ph. No of that "Medicine shop" from where I can be able to get the ZINCOLAC & CILAMIN.
Thanking you.
Yours faithfuly,
Anupam

Dear Anupam,
Cilamin and Zincolac are available in all the metro cities of India. Nowdays, Some patients are also being referred Zinconia instead of Zincolac. In Delhi, Zinconia is available at Nath Brothers, Connaught Place. Trientine is a better option than Cilamin but as it is an imported medicine it will be very expensive (About Rs. 8500/- to Rs. 9000/- for 100 caps). If you can afford it you can ask your doc if you can have it, I think it is given at a latter stage.
What about your medical studies. Are you continuing your medical studies. You should also get you siblings checked as WD is a genetic disorder. You must be knowing enough as you yourself are a doc.

Hoping for your fast recovery and all the best for your life!

Richa

Madam Richa,
Thanks much for your precious advice which is helping me to learn greatly.
Yes you are right about Trientine but as far as I know it is much costly( Rs/-25,000 - 30,000 per 100 cap). The medicine must be kept in 2 - 8 degree centigrade temp. I've used Zinconia- 50 but not satisfied in the result.
I'm now 3rd yr in my M.B.B.S. course but not satisfied in my studies as lagging behind day to day. My sister has been screened & all the lab report shows negative but she has not gone through Liver Biopsy and Karyo typing or haplotype analysis and within few month she'll go through the second test as I personally donot beleave in the first one.
Thanking you.
Yours faithfully,
Anupam Mandal

My daughter is on D-Penicillamine since Oct. 2000.

Initially, imported medicine named ‘Artamin-250/150mg Capsules ‘of BIOCHEMIE Vienna-AUSTRIA / Sandoz-Austria was available. Since last Two years imported “Artamin” is not available.
In India, according to my information, D-Penicillamine is available with following Brand names:
1) Artamin (VHB),
2) Artin (Arvind Remedies),
3) Cilamin (Panacea).

I searched a lot for imported “Artamin” but with no result.
There being no option I have to rely on Artamin (VHB), which is easily available in State of Maharashtra.
Which brands you had used sofar. If there are other brands Pl inform
.
Best wishes for your early recovery.

--- Jayant

Dear Mr. Jayant,
Thanks for your precious reply.
Initially, I was using ARTAMIN( Vienna- Austria) and doing quite good. in the yr 2003 Artamin became unavailable in India and forced to use Cilamin. But latter on I came to know that Cillamin is not a good brand.
Since Feb 2009 I am on ARTAMIN (VHB) and was improving quitely. Recently ( Aug 2009) I've purchased 1000 caps of the batch no- VAN- 901 ,Mfg. Date- Feb 2009 from PUNE K.E.M. Hospital & Kolkata V.H.B. office but the result is Unsatisfactory.

There are other brands such as
(1) Distamin ( Samarth)
(2) Atrmin ( Chandra Bhaghat pharma)
but they are not good as ARTAMIN (VHB), I can't understand why the new batch of ARTAMIN is not working as before as my Urine copper is Low and serum copper is too high.

From where are you purchasing ARTAMIN and which Batch No. she is using now?
Please inform.
Best of luck for your Daughter.

Dear Anupam,

It is recently purchased in Sept 2009 from Mumbai Chemist, near Bombay Hospital, Mumbai. It has same Batch (No- VAN- 901, Mfg. Date- Feb 2009, and Expiry Jan 2011).

Urinary copper test is not conducted since July 09. However, as you have cautioned about the performance of this batch, it will be done in this week.

Our previous experience of Artamin (VHB) is OK.

I would like to point out my one observation. On packing of last batch, there was foot line ‘(CARDION)’, which is absent in latest batch-packing.

If you get reliable medicine or any additional information, please inform me.

Being a medical student, Pl go through my discussion (shared with members) & Pl share your opinion.

--- Jayant.

Dear Mr. Jayant,
In INDIA, "Artamin " is the Best Brand of D-Penicillamine" but the medicine must have to keep below the temp of 30 degree Centigrade since manufacture to use. It should not be frize.
If her Body Copper status is reasonbly in good control, she may use only Zn.
Dose- Zn Acetate 50mg TDS
or Zn Sulphate 220 mg TDS

Anupam.
