Hello,

I have a quick question...My son(who is 14) had blood work done and his copper levels came back at 10(which the Dr. said was very high) she sent us back to get another set of blood work done and that came back at 21. She wants us to have another round of blood work done in February. Ok here is my not so quick question What is the "normal" number for copper in blood work?
Thanks for any help you can give me

Hi Sherise and welcome to the community :)

I am new and still learning about it all so I cant answer that question you asked - was just saying hi :)

Hi Sherise,

The very most accurate way to check copper levels is by doing a 24 hour urine collection.

As far as the serum copper I think that the correct range for someone with WD to be in is 10-15.

I would recommend that you contact Mary Graper (mary.graper@wilsonsdisease.org) , who is the President of the Wilson's Disease Association and maybe she can be some assistance for you. I'm still somewhat new with all of this myself, but from what I remember I believe an acceptable range for serum copper is in the 10-15 range. Overall, I think they take the value of the 24 hour urine copper with the Ceruloplasmin and the serum copper to calculate and see whether you're in the acceptable range or not.

Good Luck!

Melissa
