My husband has WD

0 Recommendations

My husband was diagnosed with WD, 2 years ago and is currently taking Syprine (trientine hydrochloride) on a daily basis. We have been trying to conceive for the past 1 year+ but to no avail. I'm worried that the excretion of copper through his medication is affecting his fertility (either sperm count/quaility of sperm). I've asked him to check with his specialist doctor that he's seeing for WD, but he's too embarrassed to ask.

I've also tried searching online for information but did not find any available. I will be going to OBGYN for a checkup soon, but I don't know how long it'll take before we get to the part whereby they'll check both of us for fertility issues... Does anyone know if WD or Syprine affect our chances of conceiving?

Thanks in advance!

Dear Evelyn123
welcome to the group. Sorry to here about your husband. I am man with WD. I have three girls. So I presume that the medication (D-Pen of Syprine) does not affect ones sperm count or quality of sperm. I had tried both the medication . I had my last 2 girls while I was on Syprine. How ever if you are concerned about it you should get your husband checked out. Tell him that there is nothing to be embarrassed about. You are young so it is better to get it checked early so that you can get treated if there is problem.hope your husband wil get himself cheked. All the best for you future

Thank you for your reply

I was dx'd in June of this year, however when I was 15 I was told I would have a hard time getting prego- didn't know why, but things were irregular. Well I did- I have an almost 2 year old and just recently married and asked the same question because my doctor said to count my lucky stars because I have advanced cirrhosis and a healthy baby and pregnancy is almost unheard of in this case. I found that it shouldn't and hasn't been linked to infertility- however complications of WD can cause it. So maybe he should be checked further for possible complications of WD to see if it can be tracked back to that... the liver is the first thing targeted by WD and your liver does have an impact on hormones and if there is a certain amount of liver damage it could throw those hormones out of wack. Good luck and I'll keep you in my prayers.

Hello All,
I have noticed K/F Rings in both of my eyes and have had some neurological issues that I had contributed to other health issue's but my interest in your concern about having children and whether WD would affect your unborn child makes me want to add my two cents in. We have a 26 year old Autistic Son who although is profoundly Autistic has come along way but now that I have been told by my Pain Clinic Doctor about K/F Rings I have been looking for links to Autism as these kids are thought to have been caused through the MMR vaccines and the Thimerosol that was in them up until 2001. I will be going to see my Family Doc soon for testing, but after my Pain Clinic Doc dropped this Bomb on me two days ago and told me nothing about K/F Rings and I have had to find out on the internet I must say it brings so many more questions about life and having children. The current odds of having an Autistic child are 1 in 91 yes I said 1 in 91. Very Scary world we now live in isn't it?Good luck but please talk with as many Qualified people as you possibly can before deciding about having one as WD is a heredited disease and it is on one side of the family or the other. And as you probably already know once you have 'em you can't take them back, warranties just aren't what they used to be,just kiddin! Dont forget to laugh because who wants to cry? Thanks for yourt time everyone.
