Hepatic Function Panel

0 Recommendations

Hi,

I came across this website by doing a search for liver disease. I have not been diagnosed with anything but I am concerned about my results. I am 24 years old, 5 feet, 174 lbs. My doctor of course, has recommended weight loss which I have lost about 6 pounds since my last visit (2 weeks ago). My concern is that I am a social drinker (holidays mainly), I don't do drugs or take any meds that would affect my liver. My doctor ordered a liver function panel with a few other tests because I have been feeling tired (more than usual), and having dizzy spells that last about 2 minutes. She told me that the test was slightly high. She said the normal is 40 and mine was at 50. She ordered another liver function test just to be on the safe side. This has not been the first time that I've had a "slightly high" test. After my two children (C-section) my liver test was also "slightly high". Can anybody please give me some input on this and let me know if I should be concerned? Any info will be greatly appreciated...

Thank you,

BabyGirl

Wilson disease

Hi there,

Wondering what you found out? If you check out my posting under this forum, you'll see my husband has had similar tests, although he's further into the process.

Please e-mail me directly at mary.graper@wilsonsdisease.org
and we will be happy to send you our information packet with the sequence of testing that you should have done to confirm or exclude a diagnosis of Wilson disease. It's worth checking out.

Mary

Hi,

From what I can tell of your symptoms, it sounds like your liver is a little unhappy at the moment.
Unfortunately, the liver responds to a lot of things, so it could be anything. I know that doesn't help much, but I wouldn't panic yet. :)

If the next set of liver enzymes come back high, you might want to ask your doctor to take a blood test of your copper levels. The reason I say that is I had years of slightly high liver enzymes. Only when one of them reached triple the regular level did one of my doctors continue with the copper. It was then I found out I had Wilson's disease.

From what you've said, your doctor is right about the weight loss (congrats, by the way). You might also want to not drink for a little while, just until your liver is a little happier.

Let the doctor see what the liver panel shows, and since you didn't mention the other tests, what they show as well. Too early yet to tell if it's Wilson's but kinda cool that you wrote to this list for opinions.

Keep breathing and take care of yourself.
