what state do you live in...some states make it illegal to exclude for pre-existing and just require a year wait. how old are you? have you been hospitalized? ever turned down for insurance? were you covered within the last 62 days...?
I live in Illinois, but technically my permanent address is in Ohio. I'm 25 and have never been hospitalized for Wilson's. I am covered now by a temporary insurance plan that does not cover anything pre-existing. More like an emergency insurance plan. But I haven't applied for anything long term yet and so I haven't been turned down!
ohio and illinois, as alabama where i live do not allow groups of one(you could start a 'business' and get insurance)...my suggestion is to apply online for united healthcare first( they ask the least)...since you are covered by temporary insurance that should help and your age...unfortunately you might have to lie a little. i was 21 yrs old and living in chicago(19 yrs ago) and i could not get ANY insurance...go to http://www.ehealthinsurance.com and start some online apps...when you run into a question you know will exclude you...save the app and try another company...i have never had any health problems due to wilson's since diagnosis...bcbs of illinois sucks but is better than nothing...aetna is decent, you might even have to try humana. check outi found this article http://www.cnn.com/2009/HEALTH/05/14/preexisting.condition.insurance/index. html ...you are lucky to be young ...start now
for meds ...are you on zinc? all zinc is equal...i get zinc picolinate on iherb.com for $5. you might also call the secretary of state's office in illinois or ohio for advice and to see if they have an uninsurable pool...some states do.
Are you a student? Some companies will insure students more easily.
I don't know of any that won't turn you down for WD -- in Colorado they turn people down if they have been tested for anything at all serious, even if the test was negative. But states that can turn you down for having a medical condition usually have a plan of last resort that people with medical conditions can join, although it's usually more expensive. If you went to a broker, they would know whether your state has one.
Good luck ...
I had MEGA health for a year and switched to aetna...now that i have a certificate of insurance...you can always get an agent willing to bend the rules...you might have to pay for wd visits out of pocket.
You only need to be on chelation therapy for a couple of months. If you're on Zinc, just get some Zinc Gluconate from GNC for $5 or less. GNC offers pharmaceutical grade Zinc.
(Reading all these emails proves that we need health care reform!!)
You may be able to get insured through some special interest group- For example, I taught piano for many years, and bought insurance through a musician's union. If you have your own business, the Chamber of Commerce may offer insurance, though it is often expensive.
When I moved to PA, I had a dreadful time getting insurance, as they can refuse pre-existing conditions. I finally got it through AARP.
Zinc is VERY cheap- I pay $12.00/ bottle at The Vitamin Shoppe for the amino acid chelate form. The gluconate form is very hard on your stomach. But zinc is only for maintenance- it won't get rid of excess copper, so it won't help if you're currently ill.
When I was ill, I was lucky enough to be seeing Dr. Irmin Sternlieb, who charged me very little as we were in a bad financial situation. He was an expert on W.D., but since retired and has now passed away.
All zinc is not "equal". There are no federal regulations that assure over the counter products contain what they claim to contain.
i just ordered gluzin...which was mentioned in the wda summer 2009, newsletter...pharma grade zinc gluconate...from extreme vtm...will cost about $30 month...
