Is anyone else taking Galzin. You have to take it 2 hours after food or 30 minutes before food but it has minimal side effects--only vomiting....and darn it! i keep vomiting!
i try to take it closer to food (not with food) as suggested by the doc but i wanted to know if anyone else is experiencing this.

I take Galzin. But you're supposed to take it 2 hours after food or 1 hour before food, not 30 minutes...for it to be the most effective. Otherwise you can try eating a small piece of lunch meat with it to help ease your stomach. Although with being pregnant I've been told you should heat the meat up before eating it, to kill any potential bacteria (listeria).
Galzin can be very hard on your stomach. I had episodes of nausea after being on Galzin for a few months. I ended up taking omeprazole (generic Prilosec) in the morning before eating/drinking to help calm my stomach. That seemed to help a great deal. Then I stopped it when I knew I was going to try to become pregnant. Now I'm having horrible heartburn because of the pregnancy and the zinc also causes that, so I'm starting the Omeprazole again. Hopefully I'll get some relief soon!!
Some people also take over the counter zinc because it is supposed to be easier on the stomach, but I can't remember the name/brand that is considered to be effective, since not all over the counter zincs are acceptable.

Thanks for being really specific. I need to bring this to the liver specialists' attention. I have been lacking on following up regarding this zinc.
Heartburn-wow yes this week I have crazy heartburn as well. Not taking anything for it- I usually let my body deal with it. Too afraid on the adverse affects it may have on my liver.
Also, I realized I cant take the zinc on an absolutely empty stomach (in the morning) because i throw up for sureeee ...even if there is nothing to vomit lol sorry TMI

I forgot to also mention that if you're vomiting a lot or everytime you take the Zinc, that can be bad too, because the zinc won't be able to absorb in your stomach/intestine and then it won't be as effective to block the copper. Just another thing to keep in mind.
I feel pretty sick every time I take Galzin too. I take three per day, and the first pill upon waking up is always the worst one on my stomach.
Although I have not vomited one up yet, I almost did one time when I took a pill dry at work without immediate access to water.
I find that drinking a LOT of water (at least a pint) is the way that I have adapted to the nauseating effect of Galzin on my stomach.
I still don't feel good until I eat, but the water buffers the nausea a little bit.
You're right, Such a Bird about the water. I just "discovered" that yesterday. I remember reading on the label of the container that said make sure you drink it with a full cup of water, and I never did.
I have only vomited 2 or 3 times and that was in the beginning...I was scared to take it for a while but obviously that doesn't matter lol. So ya no vomiting as of yet but the water definitely helps.
i also find that in the morning the vomiting is the worse...i guess that is when your stomach the most empty (i threw up from the morning pills...) so ya i've also adjusted to taking the 3 itake during the day and with tons of water. thank you for your post!
I was doing fine on lower doseage of GALZIN... but once switch to regular 50 mg dosage. I didnt last two week on the med. My god! I was nausea as soon as I take the med then soon after vomiting acid out of my empty stomache. lunchmeat didnt do a thing at all! now i am on over counter zinc. A lot better but i am noticing nausea lately as well.
is the OTC zinc performing the same function as the zinc acetate was? is it helping ur copper levels?
Yes, it should. I am not sure. I have three 24 hours urine test done since I am on the over counter zinc. and the blood test at the same time with it by my gastro.(spelling). The level comes back good he said. I been on the over counter zinc since Octobor last year. Over counter zinc is so much easier on my stomach. There is certain form of over counter zinc though.
I have had stomach ulcers from galzin, so my doc Michael Schilsky (wd expert) said to try different OTC zinc, decide which is most tolerable, then had testing 6 wks later. That was in 2001. Since then, I have found OTC zinc to be fine re controlling the copper. The one that I found to be easiest on the stomach was "Nature's Plus"; GNC zinc 50 is also fine; my levels were best on NOW zinc picolinate but it also chewed up my stomach-- and at this point I'm back on Syprine to give my stomach a rest from the zinc.
I was having a terrible time with the morning dose, so I altered my schedule a little. I take Prilosec OTC upon waking. I eat a small breakfast before 8:00 AM. At 10:00 AM I take first dose of Galzin. If I get too hungry it make my stomach hurt like crazy. After lunch I wait at least 2-3 hours and take my second dose. I take a second Prilosec OTC before dinner. My third dose is in the evening, just before bed to prepare my body for breakfast.
I don't know if that strictly complies with the book, but it keeps me away from the dry heaves. The one positive about Galzin is that I never snack between meals.
haha Aang. That's good if you intend to loose weight I suppose. I can't afford to loose any more weights. I am up and down around 90lbs. I used to be 110-115 before I got diagnosed with WD. Lost the weight after hospitalized for 1 week. Never gain it back ever since.
