I would think your local doctor should be able to tell you where the closest facility for a WD specialist would be. I think they would want you to be able to have the best care and would follow through with a referal and helping you set up an appointment. I would just ask them. Also, another option, I would think ANY liver transplant center would have a "listing" of facilities with WD specialists - not necessarily liver specialists - we were transfered with my kids to a facility with liver specialists who never treated one case of Wilsons - but they were great about contacting Mayo Clinic for advice and referal. Any time my kids go there, they are in contact with Mayo and they have a Mayo specialist that travels there once every 2 months. This may be the way your local facility is - you should ask - we never knew this until we starting asking questions.... It is only for your benefit to pursue being transfered.
I think Dr Michael Schilsky is at yale university who is expert in WD. I do not have his tel but you may be able to get it from WILSONS DISEASE ASSOCIATIONs secretary.I had seen him when he was at cornell in 2006 He saw me once only. If your current PCP and other are looking after you there is no need to go and see a specialist unless there is complication with your treatment or you are not happy with your current Docs.It entirely depends on you if you are ready to go and see him. Your doctors may know him.
