Constipation Ulcerative colitis

Lots of bowel and digestive issues here, but never blood.

Occasionally constipation can cause a tear in the anus from stretching, but this sounds like internal bleeding in your case?

Your doc need to take this seriously and send you to a specialist if he's finding you "complicated". Internal bleeding is not something to "wait and see" about. I'd be visiting an emergency room if my doc wasn't moving fast on something like this.

All the best.

Hi Alysa,

I've always been told that if I had blood in a bm I should go to the hospital right away so they can check for bleeding from the hepatic portal vein and/or varices in the esophagus. WD can cause these things by making it harder for blood to flow through the liver. When that happens, pressure can build up in veins, causing them to bleed.

Is your doctor a gastroenterologist or better yet a hepatologist? If not I would talk to one very soon. I don't mean to scare you but if the veins are bleeding it can be life threatening. And they do have treatments for it if that's what it is.

Good luck and I hope you find out soon what's going on!

Ann
