I was told by my doctor that I can't have children and if I did fall pregnant it would be dangerouse so my husband had a vesetomey. I have seen a few parents on here and am confused and a bit up set because I would love to have children I did fall once but misscarried is that also common

Is there other medical reasons that your doctor was going by saying you shouldn't have children? There are many women who have WD that have children. I don't blame you for being mad! Too bad you didn't get a second opinion. Speak to a different doctor. If everything is "ok" maybe your husband could have a reversal done?
Take care

Thank you but i am now too old to have children I am 37 and going through meapuse

I dont think you are too old. I had my last baby at 40

I did fall pregnant and it took a long time to fall but after 3 months I misscarried is that common do you know?

If this was your first pregnancy it is very common. I miscarried my first and went on to give birth to 6 children. Alot of women miscarry and then later carry to full term.

I have WD and I just gave birth to my son, 4 months ago. I did have 3 miscarriages prior to getting pregnant with him though. WD can cause multiple miscarriages. I would be so upset with the doctor that told you you can't have children because you have WD.

My daughter was diagnosed at age 27,but she had already given birth to her daughter at age 23. She never had any miscarriages. I would always recommend getting a 2nd or even a 3rd opinion. Doctors don't always know what they are dealing with and some doctors have never dealt with Wilson Disease and only go by what they have read or heard.

You should find another doctor. If your wilson's disease is under control there is NO reason that you cannot get pregnant and have healthy children. I am 29 and have had three easy no drug labors and three beautiful healthy children. I just recently had a miscarriage. with wilsons, you have a higher chance of having a miscarriage. my doctor said that the wilsons was not the reason for my miscarriage. Yes, your children will be carriers of the disease but they just have to be tested every five years. My husband said that you should sue your doctor and make him pay for the reversal of your husbands vasectomy. Let me know if you need a new doctor. I live in Virginia but i travel to Michigan once a year for checkups. they have a wilsons center there

Thank you for all your advice so much. I have had 4 differet doctors say the same thing may be it is due to other conditions I have associated with my wilson

Nikki,

You might consider asking the doctors SPECIFICALLY why they think it's not the WIlson's disease (WD). As you've heard from many others here, having WD itself is not necessarily a reason not to have children. (Even though miscarriage is common in women who have WD).

It may give you some peace of mind to know why it might be safer for you not to try to bring a baby to term. Also, if you really are going through menopause at 37, then your body is already "telling you" your birth-giving days are over.

I know that feeling of wanting to birth your own kids (I have two, both born before I knew I had WD), but if the desire to be a parent is very strong, there are other options. You might be able to adopt.

Best of luck with your health,
Dvora

I was just recently diagnosed with Wilson's at the age of 31- found during routine blood tests - I showed no symptoms. I had my first child at 25 and my second at 28. I did not have any miscarriages or complications during either pregnancy.

Have you ever considered adoption?

Adoption is out too my husband is 48 and I am 37 and in Australia they won't adopt to people our age. We are happy with our lives but feel that there is some thing missing children. I am thinking that may be due to my esophageal varicose veins I can't have children. I have had them since I was diignosed doctors try to explain things to me but I don't uderstand most things. I had one great doctor who used to do diagrams to explain things It helped me understand things very well but he left

Sorry, your doctor is an ass. Yes, your children would/will carry the gene for WD, but their partners would have to be carriers too for their children to have it.

If you could afford it I suggest you come to the States to a center of excellence (one is at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, Michigan) and they'll talk to you for free.

My best friend wanted more kids so her husband went to a place in Texas for a vasectomy reversal. Two more kids.

Let me know if I can be of any help.
