VHL Children's Hanbook

0 Recommendations

Hello everyone.

As you may have read in the current newsletter, VHLFA has been working for a while to create a VHL Children's Handbook. This handbook, similar to the VHL Adult Handbook already in print, will serve as a guidebook to living with, coping with, and managing VHL. The unique thing about the Children's Hanbook is that it will be geared toward 4th grade reading level. Not only is the book written for children, it's also written about children. The book focuses on issues on the minds of kids with VHL; questions they may have about VHL and how it will affect their lives. The book aims to answer those questions in a format that kids can understand and relate to.

We are currently seeking volunteers to review pre-published copies of the handbook. Please help us make the handbook the best it can be, by volunteering to review it with your family. If you and your kids would like to read the book and give us feedback, please contact us at kidsbook@vhl.org.

Thank you!

Alex, that link, kidsbook@vhl.org is not a link to a web page with the handbook.

It's an e-mail link to the e-mail address kidsbook@vhl.org

The box that pops up when you click on that e-mail link is the same kind of box that pops up in your e-mail program when you choose to write an e-mail to someone.

So what you have to do with that box is:

1. Give it a title (in the "Subject" line), like "Yes, I'd like the kid's book".

2. Write whatever you want to say in the "letter" section (the big block where you type in your message to someone).

This might include that you have VHL, you're 13 years old (or whatever), you're interested in reviewing it, and you've talked it over with your parents & they're also interested.

3. Be sure to give the e-mail address for them to use to contact you.

4. Hit the "Send" button in the upper left corner to send it, just like you do with any old e-mail to send it.

Note: Your parents may need to get involved in all this and give their approval before you're finally able to read the handbook. I'm not sure how VHLFA has it arranged.

Hope that all helps.

Nelson
