I wish there were a way to prevent future tumors. We do not have a magic pill at this time.

However, we have been learning about the role your own immune system plays in holding back the progress of tumors. If we can slow the progress, even though there are tumors, we might be able to delay the need for another surgery.

The principle is to keep your body's own natural defenses strong. See the Handbook's discussions of nutrition, stress management, and generally living with a chronic illness.

If you smoke, STOP SMOKING! That is the most important of all. We know that smoking increases tumor growth.

Eat well, get moderate exercise, and manage your stress. Stay away from chemical additives to food products. As much as possible, make your own food at home from organic ingredients, avoid "fast food".

In this way a number of people have been able to slow down tumor growth. Instead of having a surgery every 1-2 years, perhaps there's need for a surgery every 5-10 years. That alone would be a big improvement!

And there is research going on. So far there is nothing that significantly helps with brain and spinal tumors, but there is work going on. Dr. Bellgrau will be presenting some of his work at the Boston meeting.

Best wishes,
Joyce
