tumours on the optic nerve

0 Recommendations

I've known about the tumour on my opic nerve for over 10 years now. It grew a little when i was pregnant a couple of years ago but just this week it bled. I'm waiting to hear from my consultant what he recommends but I wondered what other peoples experience is. I know if it is dealt with via Lazar then i will loose a fair percentage of sight in my right eye. I am already a little blind in that eye because of a crinkling of the macklia. Anyone had a new experimental treatment that I should ask about or other advice welcome?

thank you, both. I am under Mr Webster at Moorefields eye hospital, London England. I've heard of Dr E Chew but before I mention to anything to my specialist would one of you be able to tell me a bit more about her and the expertise so I can discuss options knowledgeably. Or is there an easy way to contact her myself. I have my next appointment in less than 2 weeks.

I don't think there are really too many options for an optic nerve tumor. Lazer is usually not a good idea because of the damage it can do to the optic nerve itself.

When I first was diagnosed with my optic nerve tumor, my Retinal Specialist contacted Dr. Chew at NIH/NEI to get an opinion on how to treat it. If it were me, I would suggest having your Retina Dr contact Dr. Chew because then your Dr. can send your films and information to her to review.

Good Luck to you and I'll keep you in my prayers.

First lots of love to you being a mom You should consult with Dr Emily Chew at the NIH in Bethesda Md. There may be something new that they are thinking about. I have lost asll my vision in my right eye and have recently had a virtrectomy inthe left eye.
