Tumor in the Auditory Canal (not an ELST)

0 Recommendations

Hello,
I probably didn't put this in the right spot but,
I have a tumor in my auditory canal that completely fills the canal. Comparing the scan to a scan done in 2/2007 shows growth from a miniscule spec to completely filling the canal now. Ringing in my ear started about three weeks ago with some associated hearing loss.

My neurosurgeon said at this point, without tissue, he can't tell if it is a hemangioma or a much more common schwamma. Either way, it has to be addressed. If left to grow more, it will eventually compress on both my auditory nerv and facial nerve resulting in complete hearing loss and a droopy left side of my face.
My options are: conventional surgery to remove the tumor or, steriotactic surgery to radiate it. Both methods, I am told, have an equall chance that I will totally lose the hearing in that ear.

Just thinking out loud here-should I have radiosurgery now and hope the continued expansion of the tumor before it stops does not affect my facial nerves? or go for conventional surgery and it's associated hospital and recovery time?

oops, I meant schwannoma

Hey Rick,
I am sorry to hear your news. I was hoping that it was a symptom of past swelling, and not a new event. I don't have any advice on your treatment options. Just wanted to say Good Luck.
