spinal cord tumours

My 12 yr old son has been diagnosed with tumours on the C3 and T11. Has anyone had tumours in these positions and what was the treatment you received?

Hi judy_mx,
You must be very worried for your son, being so young and having to go through this. His youth is what will help him recover quickly though. I have had tumors removed from T-11 and L-3 in the past.
Recovery for me was very quick, in both cases I was back to work on light duty in two weeks! Granted, I believe my neurosergeons were some of the best but I was older than your son by 18 and 32 years respectively when I had my surgeries in those areas and I suffered no permanent disability from those two surgeries.
Granted, each case is different but there is no reason to believe your son would have an outcome any different.
Stay positive and help your son stay positive, he will come out of this ok.
You are both in my prayers and Good luck!

Rick

Thanks Rick. It's good to hear a successful story. Thanks for your encouragment. Judy

I want to wish you all the best. I have also had a surgery on my C3, as well as my T8. Both of mine were treated by surgery. I also came through my surgery on the C3 without any deficits. I was only 26 at the time, and I do believe my young age helped my recovery. I was 45 when I had the surgery on my T8, and though I know there are many factors, I came out with some numbness from the waist down. The best advice I can give you, however, is to get the very best physician you can for the treatment you choose. If you decide surgery is the best option, and it is time to do surgery, find the very best surgeon who has performed that surgery many times. If, on the other hand, you decide some other treatment is your best option, find a clinician who is the very best at that specific treatment. Having worked as a nurse, I know that finding the right person to do the treatment will be a huge factor in your son's outcome. My thoughts are with you.

well i am new to all this as well. I have a tumor at the t1 t2 level of my spinal chord. I have been told that due to its size to just wait it out untill the advantages of surgery out weigh the disadvantages of surgery and i am having a hard time getting anything out of my doctors here at all.

Hello Judy,

I had a tumor on my T10 - T11 and I must agree, his youth will help him through a quick recovery. I was 18 when my tumor was removed. I still have some numbness in my legs and feet however, it has not stopped me from doing anything and everything I did before surgery.

I will keep your son and family in my prayers.

Take care,

Kim

Hi judy, my 27-years old wife has had two hemangioblastoms removed from C-5 and Th-10 2 months ago so I understand your serious situation with your son. Now we are looking for treatment against VHL and hope we have found it because we cooperate with one good doctor here in the Czech republic. This doctor treats his pacients by alternative medicine and we bilieve him because we have been having many experinces with him for many years. He recommended us to use some anti-tumour teas like Manayupa, Vilcacora, Tahuari and Anona and also preparations like Sangre de Drago and Maka+Quinua. These products mostly come from Peru. Hope you can find them somewhere on web. A doctor will give us some anti-tumour injections. Furthermore I have found these mushrooms - Tibetan Mushrooms (is called also like Yogurt Plant, Yogurt Mushroom, Yogurt Fungus or Snow Lotus) and Kombucha. These mushrooms have similar effects i.a. detoxication of organism and works against cancer. I also heard about some product from shark cartilage which is able to stop of angiogenesis and it could be good treatment to kill of hemangioblastoms or another tumours. But unfortunately I personaly don't know anyone who has and experience with it. We are at the begining of the fight against VHL but we hope that is the right way because classic medicine provides no treatment against it. So if your son has not so big tumours to immediate removing them, you can try it. Good luck to you and your son! We will cross fingers! Marek

Marek:

I am familiar with both invasive and noninvasive surgeries for spinal tumors plus I am aware of many drugs that are used in such treatment. However, I am not aware of any success stories when it comes to some of the treatments that you have suggested. Do you know of patients who have had good results with the use of some of the items that you've mentioned? If so, I would be very interested in knowing the name of the doctor that you're using. Perhaps more people would consider using some of your suggested treatments along with that which they are currently using.

Thanks in advance.

TJ

Hi TJ, thank for your reply. Should I understand it that you know somebody who used some products which I have suggested but without any positive effect?

We don't know anyone with VHL so we don't know if there is some really good result with this alternative treatment. But we want to try it because doctors haven't suggested us any treatment.

You have mentioned that you are familiar with some drugs or non-invasive surgeries. Please tell me what you mean by them.

Thanks.
Marek

I had three massive vascular tumors from T8-T10, T11-L1, and L3-L5. I do not have any experience with Cervical tumors, but feel free to search through my posts/previous replies regarding the treatment I received, as well as my first diagnosis/opinion. If you are in the NYC area, I highly recommend my surgeon. If after reading, you have more questions, please feel free to message me directly. I will keep your family and especially your son in my prayers.

Hi Jenny, could you let me know what treatment have you received? Thanks in advance. Marek

Judy, it is also possible that these tumors do not need any treatment at this time. Unless the situation is urgent, I would recommend you take the time to check the scans with an expert and get some perspective on the situation.

The MRI's are so good now that we often see "spots" on the spine that are really teeny and are not causing any problems. They may stay small for thirty years. So don't leap to action, but do take this time to build a team and find a surgeon you are comfortable with.

Best wishes,
Joyce
