Reactions to prednisone

I was recently diagnosed with polymyalgia rheumatica. My rheumatologist prescribed prednisone. I almost immediately had extreme shortness of breath. Despite the warnings to call your doctor if you experience shortness of breath with prednisone, my rheumatologist commented on my shortness of breath and suggested that I call my family doctor for a stress test. So far, all results from heart tests are normal.

Has anyone else experienced the same reaction to prednisone? If so, what alternative treatment was prescribed?
