The New York Times had an article in it by Pauline W. Chen, MD (published June 4, 2009) titled:
"Letting the Patient Call the Shots".
It centers around an interview with a Harvard pediatrician, Dr. Berwick, who is also the president of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement in Cambridge, Mass. He is a leading authority on health care quality.
I think you will find the article worth reading. He describes the kind of physician/medical care we are all seeking as we search for doctors with VHL expertise to help us deal with this multifaceted disorder. We all need a medical team caring for us and we need to be an active player on that team. I think you'll appreciate what he has to say.
I could not get the direct link to paste on this note and work for me, but you can reach it this way:
www.nytimes.com
On this opening page in their search box put: Dr. Berwick
it should take you to a page where you will see the article is one of the first selections. Perhaps one of you with more computer skills than me (that's probably everybody) can reply to my note with a direct link to it to make it easier for everyone. Thank you.
