Hello Joyce,
I would like to send copies of my scans to the University of Pittsburg or Lunsford @ NIH for a second opinion. Lahey clinic is looking @ performing Shaped Beam Radiosurgery on a tumor in my Sacral Canal.
Do you have any contat info for those two places?
Thank You
Rick

Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS)

Hi. I sent the reply to your e-mail. For everyone else, the physician who is knowledgeable about the use of stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) for tumors of the spinal cord, is

Dr. Peter Gerszten at University of Pittsburgh

Dr. R. Dade Lunsford is the head of the department at the University of Pittsburgh (above).

I would be very interested to hear what you decide!

All best wishes,
Joyce

Hello Joyce,
I heard back from Dr. Gerszten just before I was to start my Shaped Beam Radiosurgery treatment.

My wife and I had a lengthy discussion with Dr. Dempsy @ Lahey. We had decided to go ahead with treatment. The tumor, for several reasons, seemed a good candidate for the procedure.

The day before my treatment was to start, Dr. Gerszten replied, After reviewing my scans and learning of the dose planned, the message from Dr. Gerszten was "The treatment planned was absolutely appropriate". Even though we had already decided to go ahead, and felt comfortable about the decision, I felt a tremendous weight lift off my heart! It felt really good knowing another, more experienced surgeon agreed with my treatment. :-)

That was 2 weeks ago, i've had the treatment and feel great, lets hope it stays that way. Joyce, thank you very much for the referal information.

No problem! I agree -- it's always good to hear a confirmation.

I hope the recovery continues to go well. Please let us hear from you as time moves along.

All the best,
Joyce
