hydrocortisone

0 Recommendations

Is anyone else finding the new form of hydrocortisone a problem? I take 5, 5 and 5mg each day and the old company who made the 10mg hydrocortisone tablets were fine because they easily broke in half. The new ones need to be cut with a pill cutter and the one i have isn't great and just what a pain.

Is there anything we can do?

I had bilateral adrenalectomy 23 years ago and I take hydrocortisone 15 mg morning 10 mg midday 5mg afternoon and then I take 0.1 mg florinef twice a day because I was having problems getting dehydrated . my body is real sensitive to the hydrocotisone my acth levels will sometimes go up to from 3,500 to 300 in 2 hrs of me taking my medicine .

I had a bilateral adrenalectomy and I take 25 mg cortisone every morning and 12.5 in the evening. I do not take florinef at all. I used to but even half a pill twice a week made me retain water and feel bloated. And my BP was a little elevated. So my doctor told me to quit taking it and just make sure I get enough salt in my diet and drink lots of fluid, especially on hot days or when I am exercising. It works for me.

I don't find myself to be hungry all the time so maybe that part goes away if you are on a good regular maintenance dose? I don't know. My knees don't hurt either.

i also have addisons and its rough. i take hydrocortisone only when i get weak cause it makes my knees hurt. when i take it i get very very thristy and hungry and pee all day and night. anyone else get it? i also take florinef.

I mean some people cut the 0.1 mg pill in half and take 1/2 of the pill every day, sorry.

My doc thinks I only need 0.1 every other day, that is the usual dosage, but some people cut the pill in have and take it every other day. I used to take 0.1 mg
every day but it may me retain too much water and my blood pressure went up. My doc did a renin test and told me I was on too much, so I changed to 0.1 mg every other day. Everyone is different though, what does your doc say?

umm, I find myself feeling very bloated by the end of the day, do you think that's being a woman or from my taking o.1 of fludrocortisol? I thought i knew a lot about my disease and the results of operations but i guess not

yes, also take florinef for the addison's -- it is replacing the hormone aldosterone which helps to maintain your bp and water retention

yes, I take florinef. I used to take 0.1 mg every day, but my new endo tested my renin and said I was on to much. So now, I take 0.1 mg every other day. I feel fine on it. I am thirsty all the time though and I pee alot. I still do 24 hour urines for catacholamines every year and I collect about 3.5 liters! My kidney function is good, I guess I just drink alot.

that's interesting, i hadn't really thought of an alternative. do you guys take fludrocortisone too?

I am also on Cortef for bilateradrenalectomy. I'm on a maintenance dose of 20mg. The pharmacy gave me generic hydrocortisone once and I didn't notice until about the third day that I just couldn't hardly move, function, anything....so I went to take a stress dose and noticed on the bottle that it was generic. So I have to my dr. rx "brand only". It really made a huge difference to me....

I am on Cortef, 2 5 mg tabs in the am and 1 5 mg tab in the afternoon (15 mg) total. I like the 5 mg tabs. I used to have to cut the 10 tabs in half. I have had a bilateraladrenalectomy due to pheochromocytomas, and I do increase my dose when sick.

Most pharmacies will cut them in half for you, if you request it. Around here, anyway. I would ask. They have the 'good' pill cutter.

Our daughter has recently been taking cortef which comes in a 5 mg tablet. she was taking 10 mg in the am. and 5 mg in the evening. She is now just on stress dosage. She will only have to take them when it deems necessary. Cortef is a hydrocotisone tab.
Are you able to get them in 5 mg tablets??
