Gentamycin for ELST?

0 Recommendations

Has anyone had gentamycin treatments for an ELST? If you would be willing to speak with this member, please send me an e-mail to director@vhl.org. Thank you!

Tom's query:
Now 18 months post surgery for the ELST, the pre-surgery symptoms have seemed to return (ear pressure and fullness with a nearly constant feeling of being off balance).

Dr. Kim and my local ear specialist have both mentioned gentamycin injections to shut off the balance mechanism in my left ear. There is some concern that the mechanism has been damaged and is sending improper signals to the brain. Dr. Kim mentioned that this was done with a VHL patient about 4 years ago (using gentamycin to shut down the balance mechanism post surgery) and the patient has done well.

I would be interested in speaking with anyone about this possible treatment.
