Fundraising for VHL?

0 Recommendations

Hi Everyone,

I've been working with a group called Team in Training who raises money and awareness for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society...this is their 20th anniversary and they've raised almost $1 Billion dollars.

Team in Training is the largest endurance training program in the world. They raise money and awareness for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and in turn get professional coaching for a marathon, century ride or triathlon. In addition to coaching, they provide nutrition and hydration clinics, they pay for hotel, flight and registration to your choice of event. They also provide a website that helps make fundraising easy. It's really a great program.

I'd like to organize a similar program for VHL...and I'd like your feedback.

1. Has anyone ever done an event like this before?
2. Is there an "event" that raises money for VHL already in existance?
3. Would you be interested in training for a 5K - 10K - half marathon or marathon and raise money for VHL?
4. Would you be interested in volunteering to staff an event that raises money for VHL?
5. ...any other feedback would be appreciated.

See my webpage (I'm not soliciting) for reference: http://pages.teamintraining.org/los/nikesf08/slindquist

Thanks in advance!!!

im in england and i only know of one person that raises money for vhl , but vhl is not suported as big as amercia, i am at moment tryin to get suport meetin groups up but it is provin to be difficult, but im sure if it comes aware in england better then people here would do fund raising, i just dont think people know how to go about these things ,

I've never done an event like this before, however, I have just begun planning a walk-a-thon for my area in summer 2009. Details are still pretty sketchy but it seems like it should be rather successful. I am planning to hold it in a local park that has a marked 5K trail and rent the picnic shelter(s) for a lunch afterwards. I hope to get local businesses to sponsor the event by offering them advertisement on the event t-shirts and in a "goodie bag" that each participant will receive.

I think if you look in the right places you'll find people willing to help that you never would have thought of. For example I e-mailed all of my friends on Facebook and got responses back from people I barely know saying they would help with anything I needed. Meanwhile some of my best friends said "maybe".

Best of luck!

Thanks for the note!!!

Great ideas. I've worked with Team in Training on donated support...but they are such a huge organization...I didn't know how I'd fare with this one. But I think, I'll give it a try. Worst that could happen is I raise a few bucks for the cause, right?

Best of luck. Please let me know how it all works out. Will you have a website? Can you send me the link?

Thanks again, good luck!
