after virtrectomy surgery

0 Recommendations

6 months after virtrectomy and all was going well, bingo, I started to experience floaters, the drs say that it could be membrane peelng and they will follow up but the floaters are how last year the eye issue popped up again. Everytime I am ready to start university I am on a stumbling block ,, Please help me I a 20 yrs old and just want to be normal. My siblings are the greatest, but mom and dad just dont understand or they do but have a hard time giving me encouragement, so now what about these floaters, can I still read and learn (I was working out right before these floaters started after doing sit ups and push ups and of course my folks think thats how this all started, Anyway lasar seems not to be the safest course of action I am very greatful for all the care I get, but I just want to succeed and the stress just stunts me Any suggestions.

Surgery Floaters Stress

Do your parents have VHL? If they don't understand, it's time to take matters into your own hands. Throw all that energy and ambition into managing your healthcare. Take complete control, and seek out a doctor that can help you. Don't quit until you're satisfied. Finding the right medical team and answers to your questions can almost completely alleviate the stress. Just knowing is half the battle some times.

I understand completely about the stress holding you back. If you're like me, it's hard to multi-task when there is something so important and troubling in front of you. There's a bit of prose that put things into perspective for me, and I hope it helps you....

for a long time
it had seemed to me that life
was about to begin
real life-
but there was always some
obstacle in the way
something to be got through first
some unfinished business
time still to be served
a debt to be paid
then life would begin.
AT LAST
it dawned on me that
these obstacles were my life

VHL is unfortunately your life now my friend. There will always be some medical issue to deal with. You have to chose to accept that fact and be successful anyway.

Ok, that's my tough-love speech.

I had a vitrectomy at Mass Eye and Ear Infirmary a year ago and started getting floaters 6 months later. I saw Dr. Gorin at UCLA (Jules Stein Eye Inst), and he worked his magic with laser. No more floaters unless I look at a bright sky... which I try to do as often as I possibly can ;-)

Thanks for responding, Yes it is tough
Whebnever the drs do lasar I sometimes do not get the best results because the water fills behind the retina, and this pulls the retina Now I am learning with these floaters, I graduated high school 3 years ago, Since I have had a spine surgery then 6 months later another spine surgery , then I was gettintg ready fir university with tests, and than right after last year this time right before my 21 first birthday in november my vision worsen and 5 months later a virtrectomy asnd now these damn floaters .. But I can rock on my "les paul; guaitar"
