Which insurance to choose?

0 Recommendations

I have not had insurance for several years and want to buy some. Because of not having coverage I have not seen a doctor for quite some time. I am almost 50, and since my grandmother died two years ago from lung cancer I have been wondering which insurance would cover the cost of cancer should I ever be diagnosed with it. I have read some awful stories of people who thought they had coverage but didn't and there seems to be so much to investigate prior to buying a policy I just want to know that whichever type I buy it would cover the majority of the expenses if anything catastrophic should be found when I do begin to start having regular check-ups, etc.
I live in Ct. and it looks like Anthem Blue Cross is a favored option, but how do I know that I would be covered in the event of something terrible happening like I finally get a regular PCP, and I am diagnosed with cancer in the next year? And what if I already have cancer but just don't have symptoms..do they cover it if you already have it but just have not been diagnosed yet?
If anyone actually knows anything I would appreciate some advice.
Thanks!

Dear Ru,
When you call around for insurance ask these questions, what is the hospitol co pays and docs visit, how much is covered if I stay in hospitol etc. Do you cover all treatments required by a doc such as mri pet scans, xrays and what are copays. I was fortunate, we have med insurance thru my husbands union, and I had cancer, and was one of only a few folks I know who had no co pays for chemo and radiation. I know it can bankrupt folks, most of the PPO insurances are the best with the most coverage, also asks what the max limits are, cause some only give you so much per year in coverage, or have a cap. I have Blue Cross personal choice, no referals needed, thank god as that can be another nightmare if you have a doc who does not like to refer and lose an office dollars and like to handle everything themselves, and not refer to specialists. Insurance is a tough thing these days and so many catches to what they cover, ask to see the policy in writing and read it thoroughly. Good luck, as for the pre existing condition, don't worry about it, get the insurance and then get your checkups and take it from there. If it is not diagnosed now it is not prexisting, if you had a medical record stating you had cancer, or some other disease, then they may not even insure you. Since you have not disease on file, no worries.
