Thyroid

0 Recommendations

I was just told I had a thyroid problem. I would not have guessed I quit smoking in Jan of this year and expected to gain a few pounds but did not gain awhole lot until Mar then I all of a sudden felt like someone was trying to stretch my skin right off my body. Mind you I changed some eating habits when I quit smoking to try to fend off some weight gain. Not all just some.
Well when I went to the Dr they tested my thyroid and immediately put me on Synthroid 100msg that was 6 1/2 wks ago. Well I just went to the Dr again and have not heard the results of weather the medication is working or not. But the Dr said to me that he put me on a higher dose of medication at first because my levels were the second highest he has ever seen and I should have had alot more symtoms. I was then told that he is trying to get my count to zero. I have looked and cannot find alot of information that speaks english to me on this problem. I would love to hear from anyone with some experience in this type of condition. I have been told that this is a condition for life.

Lauri,
I suspect from your blog you have hypothryroidism. Please note it is hypo not hyper. Yes you will have this for life. I too have this problem. The key to this disease is to know the symptoms your body has and ensure you are on the right dosage of synthroid. You may be at one level now and may need to increase or decrease in a year or so. I suggest annual visits to your endocrinologist. Congratulations on quitting smoking, how did you do it?

Thank you for that I just got results from my second thyroid check. From my regualar Dr. he has stated that ny count has come down and he feels that I am on the right dose for the time being. He also stated that I have antibodies that are affecting my Thyroid. That we will have to keep an eye on it and adjust meds accordingly. I asked if I should go to an Endocrinologist and he said he did not feel that I needed to as of yet. I am a novice when it comes to things being wrong. I have never had a thing other than minor surgeries in my life. Tonsils, Gall Bladder and Rotor Cuff nothing of great worry. I am worried now and do not know the best approach is to this. I quit smoking cold turkey on Jan 15. I had only gained like 10 lbs form that by March. Then I go to the Doctor in April and have gained nearly 40lbs NO DO NOT THINK THIS IS GOOD. This is when I found this problem. Have not gone back to smoking I smoked for 27 years less than a pack a day but still I smoked.

I just found out today that I have a thyroid cyst on my right thyroid. I have been a little worried. I was wondering if you know if thyroid cysts are the same as nodules. All my blood work came back okay - I do not have a thyroid problem - I have just been so confused!
