stye or sty??

0 Recommendations

I believe my child has a stye just under the edge of his eye. I have seen people have them before but never asked them how they cared for it. And I've only seen it on the outside of other people's eye. What (if anything) can I do to care for this and aid in helping it to heal?

I was an Ophthalmology nurse for 9 yrs. I have seen many of these also known as Chalazions. The best thing to do for this is use warm compresses as frequently as possible. Make sure the cloth is not hot as eyelids can burn easily, but a warm cloth. What is even better is a warm tea bag. There is a substance in tea that is supposed to help, but the main reason is the warmth stays longer in a tea bag. Some of these can be stubborn, but it should go away in about a week. Once you get one, your child may get one again. If your child gets too many or too frequently or it doesn't go away for a very long time, seek medical attention. It can be removed by an ophthalmologist, but they usually only do this if absolutely necessary. Again...best medicine, the tea bag or warm compress.

Thank you for the information.
