STD

0 Recommendations

About a month ago, I noticed a white, cone shaped growth on the inside of my labia. The growth was painless and did not itch. The only other symptom I had was a sweaty odor (I had been walking 4 miles a day for weeks and couldn't get rid of this smell). My last sexual partner was 14 weeks prior to this appearing. An NP examined this and didn't know what it was but brought up the possibility of HPV. She gave me condylox, which within 3 doses, had eaten a raw spot away from my skin. I have had no other symptoms since then. Every picture I've viewed of genital warts DOES NOT look like what I had. However, I'm wondering what else it could be.

I was wondering, did the NP you saw do STD testing and a pap smear?
She obviously thought the growth was a condyloma accuminata(genital wart) caused by the Human Papilloma Virus, aka HPV. But let's face it, she was trained to make her own judgement on clinical presentation and tests. Medicine is not an exact science. I am not saying her treatment was wrong, but did she confirm by testing that the growth was in deed due to HPV infection before prescribing?
Another possibility is a skin tag. These growths are hormanal and appear in pplaces where ther is a lot of friction, which leads me to believe this is a great possibility since you said you had been walking so much. These are an excess and accumulation of skin cells and usually have a blood supply(which means they bleed like crazy if they get bumped or cut).
As far as the odor, I hope she did vaginal slides and cultures to rule out an STD or even an overgrowth of bacteria called BV or Bacterial Vaginosis. If he/she did and everything was clear, I'd recommend drinking more water to flush the system and wearing a pantyliner when you exercise and even all the time.
I am sure you have stopped using the Condylox. I would get a second opinion.

No, she did not do a pap smear, cultures, or anything. She looked and I had to tell her where it was (inside of labia about halfway between the clitoral area and the vaginal area), she said she didnt know what it was, asked me if it hurt (and I said no). She didn't "see" anything else. Then, she asked me if I had heard of hpv (who hasn't?) and said that she didn't want to upset me but that she had to present me with all the possibilities and that it could be hpv or it could be a skin tag as a result of hsv outbreak 2 days prior to me finding this "thing." At the time, I didn't think of the odor (and I guess she didn't smell anything) because I was so upset - it was Christmas Eve. Again, she said that she wasn't sure but that she didn't want to send me home without anything in case that it was hpv and more appeared. I used the condylox for 3 days....it was gone within maybe 3 treatments (and many layers of skin which remained an open wound for about two days); and I've had no reason to use it again (no more growths). I contacted my gyn when their office reopened. The nurse said for me to wait till my annual in March unless something was actually visible or I started itching or having other problems. So, now I'm freakin' paranoid...I'm obsessive compulsive, which doesn't help my racing mind. Before, I had no itching or anything other than the odor. I did notice a slight discharge when I was all up in my business applying that stuff (but I started my period during this time). The odor, to revisit this, was not a bacterial infection smell - I've had that before. This was a sweaty smell.

Like I said, I've viewed every picture I can get my hands on and every thing I've seen doesn't look like what I have...I believe I stated it is white (ulcer, pimple, pus white), about maybe 1/8th inch tall/long, and cone shaped like the end of a ball point pen, soft (easily moved) not painful, not itchy. IF WARTS ARE PRESENT, DO THEY NORMALLY ITCH OR IS THIS JUST ANOTHER SYMPTOM? ARE THERE NORMALLY MORE THAN ONE? How long between when you are exposed and when you develop the symptoms and up to how many years could this be. I've researched this and just seem to not get any really definite answers. A skin tag is the only other possibility I can think of or find. I'm trying to contact the one person I've had sex with in the past 1 1/2 yrs and find out if he thinks theres a possibility he contracted this from someone. He's a friend, so I'm not worried about any fallout.

Any more information you could give me would be greatly appreciated. You've helped ease my mind a little by raising more questions and giving me another option.
