I am a podiatrist that owns two wound care centers In 2007 we estimated we prevented over 200 amputations in our area and saved Medicare roughly $ 2 million dollars. ( atypical amputation cost $35,000, with an additional $35,000 for prosthesis and physical therapy, and an estimated 25% having additional amputations with in 5 years). Since 2007, Medicare has hassled my company and refused payment for non-medical necessity and other nonsense reasons. Medicare ignores graphic picture, as they ignore our impressive results. I do not know if Medicare is just out of money, but almost every doctor I have talked with is having difficulty being paid or Medicare is asking for money back.
