Pain and Swelling in Neck

0 Recommendations

Hello everybody,

I'm new here and was wonering if anyone has had a diagnosis for the symptoms I am having.

About 2-1/2 months ago a mass appeared on my lower left side of neck. I went to my regular doctor and was told that I was just"built that way". The swelling continued for several for more weeks, and I decided to go to another doctor. He sent me to have a CT scan, which did not show anything. He did think I should have a biopisy and sent me to a surgeon. The surgeon ordered an ultrasound, which also showed nothing. The surgeon suggested that it was probably fatty tissue, but referred me to a Ear,Nose, Throat Doctor. I have not been to him yet (another week)

The swelling continues in my neck. It is strange that in the morning the mass is smaller, but as the day progresses the knot gets larger (approimately 3" by 2") and the swelling is also behind my ears and also the side of my jaw line. I have develope a deep sunk in place under my chin line. I neck also aches.

Also, at the time the swelling started, my blood pressure started going up (200/110 sometimes). I got my cardiologist to increase my medications, but my pressure still spikes high.

I also have headaches. I wake up with a headache every morning and often have them all day.

I feel like the doctors are not taking me seriously. Has anybody had similar symptoms? I have researched all kinds of information on the internet, but can't find my exact symptoms.

Thanks for any information you may have.

CS24,
Is the pain and swelling a lymph node? If so, do you smoke? You definitely may want to see an ENT. An ENT works with head and neck too. I've had some problems with swelling in my neck too, at first I thought it was a lymph node, but after seeing the ENT, he said it wasn't a lymph node. I still don't have an answer, but I got one more thing ruled out. Good luck and God Bless!

I guess you may have a hyperthyroidism. The doctor needs to test you on this. Mine is high but I do not notice any malfunctions so I did not go to the Endocrinologist.

Thanks for your reply Betty. I have a appointment on Monday with an E.N.T. doctor. I will let you know if he can tell me anything.

Hi Milareen -

Thanks for your reply. I have an appointment Monday with an ENT doctor.

What were your symptoms with your Thyroid? Are the medications the doctor prescribed normally used for Thyroid?

Thanks,

Does anyone know what was the outcome of this case? I have the EXACT symptoms. Its been nearly 30 days and my doctor hasn't been able to tell me anything. All he has done is some blood work and x-rays. Both came back OK. He ordered 2 MRI's, but I decided to cancel them and see an ENT. I'm seeing him in 2 days. Any information pertaining to these symptoms would be greatly appreciated.

I am having all sorts of symptoms. My neck does feel thick and like the is something holding it,pinching it. Sometimes it feel like there is fluid all in there since I swell up bad in the middle of my abdomen..right up under my breast fell so tight and hard for me to breath sometime. My ankles swell too if I eat to much salt or MSG. I am suppose to go to pain management Nov.17th..so we'll see then...I hope. I had an ACD & F spinal fusion and after that I have had numerous problems, but am concerned @ taking too much med just to get my pain level bearable. Good luck to all and always...GOD BLESS
