medical help

0 Recommendations

My son is 24 and had to leave his job due to severe symptoms with his Crohn's/Colitis condition . His supervisor was constantly belittling him because of it. Due to the severity of the symptoms and the harrassment , he had a breakdown at work and had to be taken to the hospital. He was under medical care for his condition, but lost his medical insurance when he left. His condition is deteriorating and wants to work but wouldn't be able to hold down a job with the symptoms he has. If he could get some kind of medical assistance to get the help he needs to get back on his feet again, he would be able to get back to work and have his own medical insurance. Does anybody have any advice?

Degenerative disc disease

Hello kimmer, I'm sorry your son has this crippling disease. I also have degenerative disc disease which has now progressed to the point where I can no longer work. I think the first thing you should do is apply for Social Security disability. You can apply over the Internet. This I would do immediatly as it can take up to 6 months to several years to get. I know it sounds like an eternity, but if he is found eligible, he'll get payments back to the day he applies. A family member is allowed to help him through this process, and I recommend it.
The second thing I would do is to contact the local Department of Human Services. They can usually link him up with a local clinic that charges by your ability to pay. I have used them in Colorado and Illinois. Each state is a little different. But this is the only place he can start to help. You may also try to look up any support groups for Chrons disease on the internet who could possibly give you advice or recommend other resources available. I am on Social Security disability now, it took me only 6 months to be approved. This is not the usual case. I'm not quite sure why I didn't have to fight them like most, but I have kept every medical record on my condition and submitted them as proof of my disability. It will also help if a doctor can write a letter of recomendation to help his cause. If you just call your local department of Health and Human services they can give you more information. You can also try looking up on the internet, medical clinics and the name of your city, or next biggest city near you. It will usually give you a few matches that you can call to get help. I hope this has been of some help, and good luck to you and your son.

Social Security Disaility is your best bet. Also apply for SSI at the same time.
Obtain copies of your son's medical files from the inception if you can, even if you have moved across country. This IS your proof og a valid disability and they will not fight you. If they have to go to each doctor to obtain these records it can take years. You have the right to all your medical record In fact, everyone should have a copy of all their medical records.s from any doctor and from any hospital, including X-rays MRI results etc. You paid for them and they are your son's. Your son will have to send the registered letters requesting all of them and should make a copy for his own records.
