Insulin pumps

For several years, I have used an insulin pump. Would love to talk with others about their experiences with pumps.

i have an animas insulin pump which i have for a/b 8 or so yrs, i love having the pump but wish they could make them more accomodating to the average person. i myself play softall and ride horses everyday, my infusion set is constantly coming out and falling off. i can not take it off b/c my sugar will sky rocket. my pump has saved my life no doubt a/b it but they could be better in my opinion. this month i am switching over to the minimed to see if i have better luck w/ it.

i noticed a comment from jess regarding the problems she was having with the set falling out. she said she was going to try the minimed. i just began using the minimed about 2 months ago and have had no problems of that nature with it. i had been taking injections for all of my diabetic life, and have never seen such good and consistent BG numbers! the biggest downside of it is the fact that i'm constantly tethered to it. it's not too bad now in the fall and winter, but i'm not sure how it's going to go in the summer. i don't like looking like i'm on a permanent IV.

I am a retired Public Health Professional and a type II diabetic for 20 years. I also went through much of the same "drill as you. About six years ago my Diabetes professionals recommended that I get a pump. With their help persuading medicare and my other insurance carrier to pay for it, I started using my MiniMed pump. My A1c values are now 5.5 t0 5.8. My NEUROPATHY symptoms have slowed. So, after six years my life has changed for the better. My advice is for anybody with long term type I or II diabetes is get a pump any way you can.
