HIP PAIN

0 Recommendations

As Ron in pain posted on Tuesday July 17 2007 - I have the same problem and I need to know what it is. When I begin walking my hips dont hurt. After walking about 50 yards my hips are so painful that I actually have to find some where to sit or lean against a pole or something. Like Ron after a couple of minutes I can walk again feeling fine then the pain hits again. Had to attend a funeral a few weeks ago and just standing at the burial was just unbearable. Took blood work last week - Doctor said all was excellent but is treating me for restless leg syndrome (rls) Have only taken the pills for 4 days makes me more sleepy and dizzy.

any comments?
Thanks Jackie

Hi Jackie....I'm Ron who submitted the hip pain problem last July. The doctor said my problem is NOT in the hip but rather in my lower back. He has scheduled me for a steroid shot somewhere in or around my lower spine. It is scheduled for Dec. 4. I'm not clear as to where the problem is exactly. I've had two previous steroid shots in other locations and neither did any good. That's why I'm not too optimistic about this coming shot. I honestly don't think anyone knows what's causing the problem. Arthritis has been ruled out. I think they are grasping at straws and am beginning to think they recommend procedures just to make money. I'm not yet depressed but certainly am disappointed, disgusted, and definitely have lost faith in the medical profession. Sorry to be so negative but I'm at the end of my rope. If you learn anything PLEASE let me know. Thanks. Ron

Hi--I got hurt at work last October and have been dealing with hip pain since. I go to one of the best Pain and Rehibilitation Management doctors in my area. I have have had 10 injections in all areas of my back for the hip pain. None of the injections have been successful. I was finally ready to give up and my doctor has asked to do one more test. He says that there is a potential of diseased disks and a compression discography is the test that will let his know exactly where the pain is steming from. The doctor said that it is a very painful test, but it might be exactly what I need to help rid of this wretching problem. My test is scheduled for the end of November. You might want to ask your doctor if this test could help you!!!!! Hope this helps with a possible step that you can take. Good luck!!!! I feel your pain

Hi Mr. Ron Thank you very much for writing me back. Although i was desperately hoping you could just tell me what the Doctor said was wrong with you so I could tell my Doctor hey this is what I have fix me. Personal question?? Are you a big man?? I know my weight and height do have alot to do with it but I have always been a large person so why hurt this bad now??? The medicine the Doctor is giving me for restless legg syndrome does not seem to be doing the job so I dont think that is my problem. I go to two more Doctors on November 20th will let you know what happens. Could you let me know if you here something???

thanks
Jackie

Dear dhoss thank you for your response. I didnt really realize how many persons out there have the same pain as I do. The test you have to do at the end of this month you have to be awake for it?? They cant knock you out?? Let me know how bad it was and if it helped you before I even consider it. Would also have to see if insurance pays for this test. Good luck please let me know how it goes.

I feel your pain as well

Jackie

It is difficult to read words that sound so much like the way that I feel. My doctor has said the pain in my hip is arthiritis. But, so far nothing they have given me seems to help. The pain medication helped but recently I have started having seizures- which they think are because of the meds. Now I am off the pain medication, but I have constant pain. I am so frustrated with all these doctors. I wonder sometimes if I need to go to another doctor. But, this is the third doctor I have been to and at least he came up with something.

Hello fellow pain sufferers. I just want you to know that hip pain may be the result of a spinal condition I have, called a spondylosis. At the base of the spine, level L-5/ S-1 many people have a small break or slipping of disc, in this disc area. I think one in five people are born with this. It is just a weak spot at a crucial area of the spine. Some people never have a problem with this, but some, like me, have had trauma to irritate this area. The best relief I have gotten has been from stretching excercises. There are specific excercises that strengthen up this area, and also stretch out the muscles and tendons. Any physical therapist can train you in the specific excercies needed for this area. If done daily, you will get relief within a week. The important thing is to do them everyday. Many people start feeling better and forget to do them daily. If you want to know more on these excercises, feel free to contact me at ykfifty04@yahoo.com and I'll give you more specifics on these areas and also I get regular chiropractic adjustments which help keep this area stable, but if you don't do the excercises, you will not gain stability in this region. Swimming is also a great way to excercise the low back without the added pressure of your weight hindering you while excercising. Your doctor can still give you some muscle relaxers, and anti-immflammatory meds to keep you out of pain. Good luck on your venture to less painful daily life.

Hi Jackie,
I have read your posting and I seem to be in the same position.I have seen two orthapaedic surgeons, gynae, urologist, acupuncturist, chiropractor and have had nerve testings in the groin,MRI, xrays, Laparoscapy, biopsy and deep needle into the hip still with no relief. I too canot walk too far, sit too long, stand too long or lie too long. The pain I get is nagging sensation deep within the hip which goes down the inside of the leg into the foot.
I have now developed and red mark just above the inside of my ankle which started as a circle of little blisters and then red inside sore and itchy at the same time. If I sit. I cannot sit back in a chair as the pain is too severe.
Is there anyone I could contact who could maybe help as I am at my wits end.
My e-mail address; atom@xsinet. co. za.
Many thanks,
June

Hello all. For the past 10 years I've suffered with minor hip pain, mainly when walking. I used to walk a 4 mile course 4-5 times a week. As the pain increased, th e distance I walked decreased to no walking at all for exercise.
Xrays show moderate arthritis in my right hip.
About 14 months ago the pain got severe. Pain was mainly in the groin, felt like a burning sensation. Turning my foot inward was excruciating. Orthopedic surgeon was unsympathetic, saying at age 63 I was too young for a replacement.
Now, 1 year later, Both hips are hurting to a greater degree then before. Again, mainly in the groin, but accompanied by a pretty severe dull ache in my hip and lower back.
I just saw a new surgeon who also said the degree of my arthritis is at best moderate. But, he is more than willing to do a replacement.
I might add that there is no arthritis in my left hip.
I want to be relieved of the pain and get my life back, but I wonder now if the problem is the hip arthritis, or if there could be another cause.
Anyone have any ideas or thoughts?
Thanks

Yes, you are quite young to have a hip replacement. Remember that many replacements don't last much beyond 10 or 15 years, and you wouldn't want to go through the surgery twice.

I'm no doctor, but the groin pain you describe and inability to walk were exactly the symptoms which led me to have a joint replacement four years ago. Afterward I was delighted to have no pain in that hip.

However, now my other hip has become quite painful and I know surgery will soon be needed. (I've been dealing with other health issues lately--)

Best wishes,

B.

Hi,

I have been helped greatly by an Acupressure mat which helps to increase the blood flow and decrease pain.

Its based on the old time bed of nails.

Not sure where you can get them in USA ( I guess google will help ;-)

In Australia you can read about them or get them at www.acupressuremats.com.au

All the best...Sam

Good morning all,
I have very much sympathy for all of your pain. My hip started hurting about 4 years ago. I had to go to ER and get a shot of demoral which did help once I returned back home. They said I have a calcified hip. That's strange since I have a calcified tooth on the same side and was pushed into having a root canal a few years ago. I do still have hip pain sometimes, but not to the point of surgery yet, altho the doctor did ask me if I wanted it. I was sent for P.T. for a few weeks back in the mid summer and it did help..I do believe that we need to exercise first and see if it helps, under drs. supervision, and to continue to do at least 3 times a week at home.
I know there are some of you who will require surgery and it's worth it to be relieved of the pain. Burning makes me think it could be pinched nerves. Be sure you have an mri with dye if nothing else shows the problem..and I would ask for it first. The dye is safe, unlike the dye in cat scans, which I cannot tolerate.

I had back surgery in 95 for a herniated disk and pinched nerves..so I can relate to your back pain, also. I needed surgery at least 6 yrs before I finally went to a great neurosurgeon who said I could have the surgery or not..I was ready and it was the easiest surgery I have had. The surgeon cut out a piece of the disk like pie shaped wedge. I do have back pain if I bend over too much..and my toes have been woody and feet numblike for years..don't know if that is from the back or the fact that I take heart drugs for arrthymia and hbp pressure..another story here.
I know others might need more invasive surgery but life with constant pain is not really living.
I would push the calcium and vit. d also..don't know about males, but I believe females after 50 are supposed to take about 3500 mg. a day. Everyone should check to be sure. I have osteoporsis, also, so that is why I do need it.
Don't give up. Change doctors if needed. I can say my son has a bad problem with his back and the doctor gives him steroid shots when he is on crutches. He's never had any x-rays for this. Ask for tests. It's your body. Why we have so much suffering without physicians sympathy, I don't know..
(the heating pad is my friend)
Gentle hugs and wishes for healing. <3
