Help with my spouse's illness

0 Recommendations

I need help. Don't think my husband will make it much longer. He is down from 180 lbs to 135; weak and depressed.

Dr. cannot find out what is wrong; has had many blood tests (including thyroid), and x-rays. No cancer (lung, pancreas, liver, stomach, etc); no blood abnormalities. He has had heart bypass surgery (1978) (but heart checks seem to be fine). Blood pressure good with pill and is now drinking a supplement drink (on this for approx. 20 days), and eats well.

He's 79 years old (and I want the quality of his life to improve).

I think in another post you mentioned going to a hospital? That is what I would do, seek further medical advice and any scans which could be diagnostic. Don't just leave it. He could be depressed because there is no upturn in his condition.

hello Bethel,

Sounds to me that his body is not processing the nutrition he is eating, you do not mention whether he takes any vitamins (must be taken when eating)? Try Zinc vitamin, it is supposed to increase appetite. A friend of mine has lupus and has suffered considerable weight loss also, and this helped her gain a few pounds. Also make him some good smoothies with fresh fruit, and maybe some Kieffer( found in some food stores or health food store) . It is a yogurt like drinkable product in many flavors and full of nutrients. I think the depression is a big part of it, when the body is weak the mind follows. I would try to change everything with nutrition instead of chasing docs who just want to find a disease. Ask at the health food store for other products to help weight gain. I know nuts are good for that too, but most be the good nuts, cashews walnuts, not peanuts, the ones that grow on trees not in the ground. Also they are very healthy for you as well. Some meds can cause weight loss also, so research his prescription meds online or check the packet that comes with them. Good luck and remember mental health does control alot of the bodies function. So work on his spirits as well. You should know of all people how to cheer him up and give him a focus for happiness all around.
