Cancer Surgery Chemotherapy Colorectal cancer Leukemia Avastin Breast cancer
Hi
Michelle, my wife, is 37 years old. In Oct of 2007, when she was 35, she was dx with stage 4 colon cancer with mets to her peritoneal lining and limp nodes. (remember when you didn't know what mets were?)
They told us that there was no hope BUT, apparently, they didn't know about IPHC (Inter Peritoneal Heated Chemotherapy) ..... why else would they tell someone that there was nothing that could be done, other that prolong the inevitable and make you comfortable, if they knew that there was something?? I struggle with that answer.
Anyway, we found out about IPHC surgery and we went to talked to Dr. Levine in Wake Forest. He told us that IPHC could help me.... add probably two healthy years to her life and most likely completely prevent her abdomen from filling up with fluid for the duration of the disease. We knew, from the internet, that there were SOME long term survivors out there.
We had the surgery on June 9th and we are now being told that Michelle has a 64% five year survival rate!!!! Please realize that Michelle is at the top end of the IPHC statistics. We don't want to give false hope, we just want you to know that there is SOME HOPE. We would be glad to answer any questions or point you to someone who can.
Your mom will not need IPHC but if you go to her Caring Bridge page and look under links, you will find a link to the Budwig Protocol and in her Journal, you will find our experience with Fol Fox 5FU with Avastin... the chemo your mom will likely be on. Something we lirned after chemo is that compression gloves and socks (like diabetics use) can help reduce the effects on her hands and feet.
God bless.
We have a blog http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/michellelanham
There is Avastin by Genentech for colorectal carcinoma with mets. I'm sure there are other treatments but I think Avastin in the first-line treatment. Stay with a teaching/academic hospital. You may also want to try Wake Forest, Mayo, Cleveland Clinic, M.D. Anderson (cancer speciality), etc.
I wish your mom recovery from this terrible cancer.
Thank you so much for the information.
God bless you and your family.
there is a new vaccine cald oncovax google it to get the info, there doing clinical trials on it for stage three and it's very supposed to be good. They use the tumor to create a vaccine so find out before they operate.
Good luck
In order to enroll in this clinical trial, I would expect the criteria to include "must have had previous treatment for .....carcinoma". They normally can't enroll you in an oncology trial unless you've already tried something with no success or all else has failed and this is the last resort - it varies.
ask for pray from all you sounds like you believe he can change pray for healing is about all i know colon cleanses high dollar type will her with some relief. look for the best you can find. and then turn it over God i will ask my church for praying for your mother I lost my mother to fibrosis of the lungs last year so we will be praying for you also. I'm sorry Gary
Thank you for all your advices and encouragement. I wanted to ask you if anyone heard about a natural treatment made by Rudolf Breuss. It is based only on fresh vegetables, juices and tea. I was wondering if someone got cured in this way.
I know that my mom is in God's hands and I pray for her and I thank everyone that prays for her.

Hello
I am sorry to hear about your mothers condition, I have just gone thru throat cancer and did radiation, at the present time they say I am clean, but must watch to make sure it does not come back for me. I have used a nutritionist all my life for all my ailments. He has kept me healthy most of my life and I usually never get sick, so this cancer caught me off gaurd, but I was so healthy I decided to stray from my vitamin regime and hence weakened myself and got the big sickness. I did not want the side effects of the white coats treatment for this disease and asked my nutritionist if there was any way to fight it otherwise, and he explained to me, your body made these cells and if you fed it right it would have fought them off before they got hold, but now that they are there, all the good things you give to your body will just help every cell grow including the cancer cells, hence why the chemo and radiation kill all cells and you hope they regrow after treatment healthy. There is lots of things that you can do to help the body heal from the treatments, but to my knowledge all the miracle cures with diet do not rid the body of a healthy cancer cell.
I am not an expert, but I did both things while doing the doc treatment, as recommended by my nutritionist. I wish I could send you to him, but he is retired and only treats us existing patients, he is still ongoing education so he is an expert in many things, good luck, but be careful with the stuff you read if you do not have an experienced person guiding you thru this what you read does not mean it is factual.
good luck

In addition to chemo, nutrition plays a huge part. I haven't seen a person go without chemo and survive. Some new chemo treatments kill the specific cancer cells rather than the bad and the good cells. This is the new thing today.
Do you know the name of these new chemo treatment?
Again, look up Avastin which is for metastatic colorectal carcinoma. Ask a physician at the academic/teaching institutions about others. Where are you?
Another drug to check into is Erbitux - My husband has been on it for a wjile, but we are checking into Hyperthermic Interperitoneal Chemotherapy as well. Blessing to your and your mom. My 37 year old husband was diagnosed 2+ years ago and we are still dealing w/ lymph node involvement. Thanks for all the posts - We are not in this fight alone and hopefully some stem cell research will be coming soon.
As I understand, the UPMC medical center at Pittsburgh, PA has a cancer center and they put metal probes into the liver to heat the tumors. Heat kills tiumors of cancer. Call them to see if you can get into the cancer center there or another cancer center using metal probes in order to kill cancers of the liver or other organs with heat. I understand it is only 108 degrees farhenheit. That is not so hot and should not hurt surrounding tissues.
Interesting post about the metal and heating it - There is a leukemia patient I read an artilce about and he was on 20/20 or another news show and he has come up w/ the same theory - Injecting a type of metal into cancerours tumors and heating them...His tests have shown that this may be a way of the future, but I haven't heard they are actually performing it anywhere. Thanks for the post. Also...DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY INFO ANOUT RADIATING LYMPH NODES? ANY SUCCESS W/ THIS? MY HUSBAND HAS ONLY LYMPH NODE INVOLVEMENT, AND WE ARE TRYING TO GET THE MOST UP TO DATE INFO ON THIS. Thanks
Hey Mel.... I just figured out who you are, I think.
They are still aways off from trials but it wouldn't hurt to call and find out if there is a "list" you can get on.
I have been watching the developments with John Kanzius's invention for a year or so, sadly John has passed away but his dream is looking more and more like it will come true. Hang on people, fight with all you got and pray.
Excerpt from a Dec 08 article: http://www.goerie.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20081219/NEWS02/312199956
"Curley and his research team did it by linking specific antibodies, or proteins, to the nanoparticles. The antibodies attach to the surface of certain cancer cells and are absorbed, but they don't attach to healthy cells.
Researchers tested pancreatic and colorectal cancer cells that easily absorb a particular antibody, cetuximab. They also used breast cancer cells that don't absorb the antibody as a control group.
Live cancer cells and the treated nanoparticles were placed in specimen dishes and allowed to incubate for 24 hours. They were then blasted with radio waves from Kanzius' device for two minutes.
The results: Nearly 100 percent of the pancreatic and colorectal cells were killed, but hardly any of the control group's cells were destroyed.
"It shows that we can target specific types of cancer," Curley said. "We're now working on other types of cancer cells, including breast, liver, prostate, leukemia and ovarian." "

Hey, Larry - yes, it is me, Melanie - This is where I first saw your poast about your wife's surgery - We did get some news today from the radiation oncologist that he is certain they can zap these 5 stubborn nodes w/ raidation - They will leave my husband on oral chemo as well during that process. For some reason some people have colon cancer that just hangs out in the lymph nodes and my husband happens to be one of these people. We are praying this will be the answer to our 2 + year journey. Sending continued prayers to you and your wife.
I looked up the treatment that Amy mentioned and it looks very promising!

I have a good feeling about your husbands treatment Melanie :-)
Thanks for the encouraging and kind words, Larry - I pray this will be an answer to our prayers. Also, thanks for all of your posts...I also read a report recently about Erbitux shrinking down liver mets (enough to then allow them to be operable). i am so thankful my husband's organs are clear and have stayed that way for 2 yrs & 3 mos...God has definitely blessed us in that respect.
Get to the UPMC cancer center in Pittsburgh, PA. They are one of the cancer treatment centers that are putting metal probes into the liver tumors and then zapping them with heat. Believe it or not, temperatures of 108 degrees farhenheit are hot enough to kill cancer.
