allergies and asthma

0 Recommendations

I am a 58 year old male who has just been diagnosed with astma. In my lifetime, as far as I know, I have not been allergic to anything in the past. Also about five years ago I started having sinus congestion for no apparent reason. I have been tested for allergies ( blood test ) which didnt show any allergies. I have been using Q-var inhaler to help with the asthma. I have wheezing and congestion in the chest but no real asthma attacks where I can breath.
My question is, could I have an allergy causing both problems even though the blood tests doesnt indicate that ?

Forgot to mention, the sinus problems started right after I moved from New Jersey to South Carolina ? And, the sinus stuffiness usually isnt a problem when I am active, it is worse when I am just sitting in a chair, especially in the evening ?

Anyone have any ideas or suggestions to a course of action ?

many times the body will try to eliminate toxins via the sinuses if the digestive track is not working effectively. The lymphatic system, which is also part of the body which helps detoxify the body, works best when we are active, as its pump is muscle activity. When we are seditary, the mucus is dumped into open cavities, ie the sinuses and the lungs. I have found that once the digestive track becomes more efficient, the sinus problems go away. As we age, the body systems can become less effecient, unless we take care of them through proper nutrition and supplementation. The drugs may be ok for short term, but long term they may just add to the problem, because the body has to process the chemicals out also. Hope his helps. I can let you know what exact process has worked for me if you are interested.

Your sinus condition and asthma can both have a common allergic basis. See my comments on another part of this Asthma and Allergies stream about a suggested approach you can check out with your doctor. Leukotrienes / cytokines can be released by our own body's cells in reponse to messages from other cells or as a result of contact with allergen(s). These substances (leukotrienes / cytokines) can cause inflammation of the sinuses (chronic allergic sinusitis) and inflammation in the lungs (asthma).
