Can anyone tell me where to purchase GTO oil? I had been getting it from Parrillo Performance in Ohio, but when I called last week (11/12/2008) they said they no longer carry the stuff.

Contact Kim at Hollandsworth@kennedykrieger.org She can tell you exactly where to get it.
Thanks for the contact.
If I get a response, I'll post it here.

What is GTO oil? My husband works for an oil company. If I know better what it is I can ask. They have many kinds.
GTO = glycerol trioleate
It's one of the components of Lorenzo's oil.
It can be used for cooking.
OK. I've finally got the end response. Should anyone care:
Kim Hollandsworth, RN working for Dr. Raymond at Kennedy Krieger Institute, says "we are now dispensing the GTO and each situation needs to be approved by Dr. Raymond." And, because I don't consume a set amount of it daily, but instead use it only for food preparation, she then said "we are unable to supply you with the GTO oil for cooking use only."
Well, it has been 15 years since I was last at KKI, so perhaps the protocol for AMN men has changed. Time to get more info from Dr. Raymond...
My experience is that GTO is not as easily available as it used to be. I have two sons in the X-ALD study. One of them is on GTO, which takes the place of a portion of his Lorenzo's oil dose. This is because he is one of the boys that has blood platelet issues periodically due the full dose of Lorenzo's Oil. It sounds like they are trying to keep as much GTO as possible for the study, given the supply concerns.
We order GTO oil to cook with. My son is 18 now and is not in any of the studies at KKI due to the advanced stages of his disease. Here is the phone number to call. The company is called either Karlshamms or Abitech. the 2 phone numbers I have are 1-800-848-1340 or 1-800-526-4547. Ask them how to get the GTO oil....they are very helpful.
Hope this helps...........Take care
Laurie
Thanks Laurie.
The 800.526.4547 number is Abitec. The other number is no longer valid.
I was told they no longer bottle the oil, nor do they have a vendor, like Parrillo, who is bottling it for resale. However, they're willing to sell me a 50 pound container at $7.75/lb. That's roughly 6-1/2 gallons of GTO for $387.50 (plus tax & shipping, I presume).
Thanks, again. Best wishes to your son and all of your family.

Can you cook with mustard seed oil in place of GTO?
Brit
I have tried cooking with Mustard seed oil. I find it alters the flavor of alot of foods. They really don't recommend it. My family did not like the taste so I quit using it.
Sorry about the GTO. We had ordered it about a year ago, I was not aware they were no longer bottling it.
Laurie
I had never heard of the mustard seed oil option.
Laurie: No need to be sorry. I am proceeding with the 50 lb. pail option! I figure I'll get some glass and/or plastic containers bottle it myself once it arrives. I'll store as much as possible in the fridge, the rest in a "cool, dark place" (the cabinet).
Also, the price is reasonable when compared to what I was paying Parrillo. The case of twelve 24-fl. oz. bottles cost $150, including shipping. That's about $8.68 per pound.
