has anyone tried or even heard of vestibular therapy? with recommendations from both of my son's therapists we are approaching this therapy as a possibility. just wondering if anyone has had any experience with this?

no, we haven't tried it ...but I would be very interested in what you know/learn ...how old is your son ...we have a 3-year old daughter ...
our son is 6. we have recently gotten the ok, after doing some testing, that he would qualify for vestibular therapy. we live in cincinnati and are with cinci children's hospial. their new satelite office is the first in the country to have vestibular therapy for kids. i would check out hypovestibular and hypervestibular terms on the internet to see if your daughter exhibits problems that relate to this. i am still not sure what the therapy entails. we don't start the therapy until august or september. i'll keep posting on this as we get new information.
thanks ...I definitely think the therapy would benefit my daughter as well ...she is experiencing balance, gait, walking issues ....how about your son? ...also, just curious, where in Cincinnati do you live? ...I live in Chicago, but grew up in Oxford ...
we are in maineville...a little northeast of cinci.
i've spent a lot of time in oxford...my brother went to miami.
our son has had gait, balance and walking issues all along, so it sounds like the symptoms are pretty similar. he has fine motor skill issues also...what they call an intentional tremor.
both his occupational therapist and physical therapist recommended that he get referred for vestibular therapy when they found out that it was going to be available. truthfully i am not holding out a lot of hope that it will make a huge difference, so if it does i'll be really happy! i just don't know much about it but i do know that if you read a description of hypovestibular it seems like you are reading a description of my son!
has your daughter gotten an official diagnosis? it may be worth it to ask her neurologist/therapists about options with this therapy?
My husband suffered a debilitating fall in 2006 and had internal brain damage and crystals disturbed within his inner ear. The Vestibular Therapy he received in Allentown PA was greatly appreciated to get him up again without dizziness, With a cane he regained some balance again and after the exercises and rehab , he walks with a minor gait issue. Perhaps this is different from what your children may be dealing with . But he has gait issues due to a genetic disturbance of CTX ( a rare but LT disorder creating walking and balance weaknesses.) There are large growths on his tendons externally seen and internally found in areas of the brain as well . If I were a mother of your child , I would advise that , if a therapist suggests a therapy , I would try it . My husband walks ( 2 years later) with no cane . Best wishes
thank you so much! it is good to hear that results are a possibility with this therapy.
I googled it and it sounds like a therapy for a balance disorder, usually used for people who have chronic dizziness and balance problems.
