QUESTION- VWM-GENETICS

0 Recommendations

I have a question about VWM and the genetic parts of it. We just got our sons blood taken today to confirm that he has VWM disease (vanishing white matter) and i know that when we get the results back, and if they are positive they will most likely go through and genetically test my husband and i to see the probability of us having another child with it.
With that said, i know that its different for all parents so i understand that it will be different for us but im just wandering what percentage your childs doctor gave you, for your next child.. and if there is anyone out there who had two or more children that were diagnosed with VWM.

For VWM, it is the same percentage for all of us. VWM comes from both parents, meaning both you and your husband are carriers. Each child of you have with your husband will have a 25% of having VWM, 50% of being a carrier (but not having VWM) and 25% of not being a carrier or having it.

Check out ulf.org, I think there is a chart that explains the genetics of it.

My 4-yr old daughter was diagnosed last year. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions. I'll try to help the best I can.
