I was in a severe accident about 5 years ago hit my head and was taken by ambulance to the hospital. Ct scan then was showing signs of White Matter Disease. Just reciently fell and again landed ( this time on my own two feet) in the Er. Once again the Ct scan showed WMD. Visited my family doctor who told me that the two scans 5yrs apart show the same thing with out change. So therefore I have nothing to worry about right???? I have no symptoms other than being very forgetful and daily headaches... I am only 20 and have a personal medical history of infant epilepsy and a family medical history of Alsheimers and Brain Cancer... I worry like most women that this may become something more... What to do??

I'm sorry you are going through this. My son was just diagnosed with MLD last fall. Also, my sister has MS but I think it is adult-onset MLD. She was also diagnosed at 20 and my great-aunt was as well. So, since you have a history of brain abnormalities in you family, I would just watch for any changes, but if the doctors say that there have been no changes I would consider that a blessing. I wish I knew more about your specific disease. Is WMD a specific disease or does it cover a number of diseases that the doctors are not sure you specifically have? I wish you all the best and here if you need to talk. Have a blessed day.

It is great and amazing there has been no change in 5 years. Because of all you went through, it might just be how your brain is. Which is good news. To be safe, I suggest you see a specialist. Because some of the leukodystrophies have treatments. But if you wait for symptoms, it could be too late.

Wmd is what My ct scans showed... I don't know what the true diagnosis is and being that My current family doctor is unhelpful... I'm searching for a doctor who is smart enough not to equate leukodystrophies to having freckles!!! Thanks for your support!
