Female carriers of ALD - anyone with elevated ACTH?

0 Recommendations

Wondering if anyone else was found to have an elevated ACTH level - mine was 81. What does this mean in female carriers? It's been elevated for over a year now. The only dramatic change I've noticed in my health that could be explained by the elevated ACTH is that I feel cold all the time. Really, really cold. I just can't warm up in the wintertime.

Anyone have any info/ideas?

Thanks!

Cortisol

Mine does jump around a little. I think the highest was 68. I however am usually always warm. I also crave salty foods alot. Not sure if it has anything to do with all of this though.

If you have an elevated ACTH, then you should seriously consider seeing an endocrinologist. A high ACTH is one of the signs of an adrenal insufficiency and you might need cortisone, flurinef (spelled wrong i think) or both. An endocrinologist would check the ACTH and the cortisol levels to make sure your body is producing enough cortisone. If not, it's a really easy fix. The doctor just replaces what your body is not naturally making on its own with hydrocortisone pills.

I'm not aware of carriers normally having elevated ACTH levels, but it's possible I'm sure. Good luck.

Oh my gosh, my cousins and I (all carriers) have talked about high salt intakes and coldness too...I seem to always have lower blood pressure than normal too. Now I'm gonna make an appt with an endocrinologist! I've had difficulty getting warm (when cold) most of my life, and when I'm cold I'm prone to cramping, really bad cramping.
