Table salt is usually iodized so if you use it chances are you should have sufficient levels. Goiter is a condition that occurs from a deficiency of iodine. The thyroid gland, located at the base of the neck, grows very large. In the United States, where most people use iodized salt, goiter is more often due to the over- or underproduction of thyroid hormones or to nodules that develop in the gland itself.
