Walk-A-Thon Fundraising

Dear Community,

The Kiwanis Club of Trenton GA has taken on the task of raising funds to place defibrillators in the Dade County Schools. Their goal is to place eleven defibrillators in the four schools and administrative offices. The club has been working with the school administration. The school system will match the funds raised for this project. The first AED was installed yesterday in the High School through a gift from Citizens Bank and Trust a local bank. Dr David Martin has donated his services to provide medical oversight to the school. The school system plans to train all system teachers in CPR/AED procedures prior to the start of the new school year.

The high school Key Club is considering a walk-a-thon to raise funds for this project and asked me how they each could represent a specific SCA survivor or victim for this project. I suggested that they join the SCAA to learn more about SCA and to find a person they can represent. Please look for their future posts and help them learn how to be involved and help others.

It's wonderful to hear stories of communities pulling together to institute AED programs. Thanks for spreading the news about SCAA. We're happy to help the high school key club. On our website (www.suddencardiacarrest.org) are many survivor stories the students will find inspiring. Also, in the "newsroom" section, we post articles about recent "saves."

SCAA also has red wrist bands which we would be happy to send for the walk-a-thon. Please have someone contact Deanna McCray James at djames@suddencardiacarrest.org.

Thanks for sharing this good news.

Diane
