Survivor #99

0 Recommendations

The Rochester Police Department announces our 99th successful resuscitation.

At about 6:15 AM, a 48-year old man was walking in the 300 block of 3rd Ave SE in Rochester, Minnesota. He collapsed. He had the good fortune to collapse between the Rochester/Olmsted Government Center and the employee parking lot at shift change. A citizen and two deputies from the Olmsted County Adult Detention Center spotted him and went to his aid. They began CPR and called 9-1-1. Rochester Officer Carrie Riggott arrived with an AED and delivered one shock. He was taken to St. Mary's ER where I believe he arrested a second time.

I spoke with him today. He is doing well. He is scheduled for ICD implantation tomorrow and should be discharged shortly thereafter.

Best wishes to all,

Steve Johnston

Congratulations! The Rochester Police Dept is a national model for providing police with AEDs and training and encouraging immediate bystander action.

SCAA members and colleagues around the country are working to implement comprehensive AED programs like Rochester's. It will be wonderful to hear future stories about 99 saves in other cities and then 199 and then1099 and so on.

Way to go Steve!
