I am a new survivor of SCA. My event was 9/5; I was lucky that I had some atrial fibrillation that took me to the ER. Right after I got there, I had the SCA.
I had no heart condition, no prior events, etc.
After a couple days inpatient, I had my pacemaker/ICD put in (is the word installed? implanted?) Wednesday 9/9/09.
I know there will be many adjustments ahead, but I'm grateful to be here, I find the idea of the ICD oddly reassuring, I am trying to adjust to my new heart rate of 60 (it had been a pretty low 47 with even lower dips) -- and I am grateful to have found you - this online community.

Hey and welcome Marty! So glad to have you with us.

Marty,
Welcome! I too have found this a wonderful place to be able to connect with others. I have met some wonderful friends here. Glad you are doing so well with your ICD. My husband has one and it gives both of us total peace of mind.
Looking forward to talking with you more
Diane

Welcome, Marty!

Hey Marty, I had my ICD put in on 9/2/09. Progressing fine here, hope things are well with you. Keep the ice going for a while and stay off yer feet! OK?

Don

Welcome to the club! I know -not funny- but anyway, we are glad you are here with us. We have a pretty close and caring community. It will surprise you how many of our stories are so similar.
After my SCD, I had the same low blood pressure problems around 40's all the time. So exhausting. The ICD has made the most amazing, although slow and easy, change in the way I feel overall.
Keep us updated, if you were like me, this is where I found all my useful info, not the doctors.
Vicki

Don,
You forgot no MOUNTAIN BIKES!

Marty,

I'm new too, my event was 12th May. You must be in shock, glad to still be here and wondering why this all happened. You are not alone, many of us are blessed as you are and assisted by really special people, both family and medical people. Remember, only about 2-8% of people who have this event outside hospital live to tell the tale! You are special, enjoy that fact.

Best regards,

Andy

Great to have you here!

Hi,
Just wanted to say hello and welcome. I am a new member here myself, but so far I have found that the people on this site are so willing to share their hearts and their stories.
Take care,
Cindy

You're so lucky to have been at the hospital. I'm happy that you are here to tell your story & that you have your pacemaker now.
