SCA Survivor Celebration in Chicago

0 Recommendations

Hi everybody,

October is National Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness Month, and the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Association is hosting an SCA Survivor Celebration on Friday, October 9, 2009, from 7:00 – 10:00 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare (9300 Bryn Mawr Ave. Rosemont, IL 60018).

If you or a loved one survived SCA, we invite you to join us for an evening of food, drink & good cheer. You'll have the opportunity to connect with survivors, community advocates and medical professionals dedicated to raising awareness of sudden cardiac arrest, share your personal experience (if you’d like) and discover what is being done to prevent SCA in the Chicago area and in the rest of the country.

The event takes place during the SCAA Annual Meeting. For additional information, visit www.suddencardiacarrest.org and click on the Events section. You can also contact Jill Talley at 202-719-8926, jtalley@suddencardiacarrest.org.

jt,

Sounds like a great idea. Too far for me to travel to from Ireland, but I hope it's well attended. Have a great time. Can you post pictures and maybe a report on proceedings?

Best regards,

Andy

Man, I would love to be there for the events and commeraderie but can't. AndyBelfast has a great idea. Can some of you who are going be willing to share posts and pics of the proceeding for the rest of us to enjoy? It would be greatly appreciated by one and all. (in the meantime I will be planning well ahead for next year's event so I can be there!)

Any survivor who can get to Chicago next Friday should go to the Celebration. A similar event in 2004 changed my life dramatically. I had my SCA on September 26, 2003 and an ICD implanted three days later. For that first year, my doctor's were great at treating my heart (my ICD saved me four times), but nobody helped with the mind. That is until I was invited by the SCAA in its previous form, the National Center for Early Defribillation to its conference in Washington, D.C. For the first time in a year, I met other survivors, over fifty in fact, who shared their stories of survival and life. I was welcomed into this fold by dear people like Julie and Bob and Jim and many others, and all of a sudden, I was no longer alone. It was as if a tremendous weight was lifted off my shoulder. I highly recommend this Celebration for every survivor. Yesterday, I was saved by my ICD for the ninth time, and, God willing I will be in Chicago next Friday to celebrate.

Steve and I will be there and are so excited to be able to be a part of this event. I am just soory that so many cannot come. I will take pictures and post them and will write about what is going on. I will look forward to seeing some of you there!
Diane and husband and survivor Steve
