Hi there,

When I first got my icd I had lots of fantom shocks. It was so scary I was afraid to go to sleep. This did pass and only once in a blue moon do I feel as if I will be shocked....bummer, It was good for me to know I was not crazy and life is much better..take care Hilary

I have not experienced a fantom shock, but I have had that "after" feeling on a number of occasions. I haven't worried about it recently since it turns out nothing has happened when I go to the doctor.
You are NOT crazy!! :-)

You are not crazy. Two nights ago I was awakened
and could have sworn that my icd had shocked me.
I had never even heard of a phantom shock until
yesterday when I went to the heart center to be
checked out. I was totally freaked out to find out
that I had not had a shock.

When they first had to convince me I needed the ICD ("healthy" and very active 31 yr old with symptoms and Long QT and strong family history of Long QT), everyone told me I needed to take it seriously and up my worry level. Since putting in the ICD, I am still at that higher worry level and there isn't a need to be. I called the dr thinking I had been shocked and it turns out it was a phantom. I'm normally not a whiner when I don't feel well. I "will" myself better over colds and anything else (Moms don't really get sick days, right??). And I have a very high pain tolerance. So, phantom shocks are a real problem for me. I don't admit them anymore.
Is it a physical thing because we have this foreign object, or is it really in my head? I was POSITIVE it was a physical feeling. It HURT.

Glad to see Mommas boys request for help! She is my beautiful niece who unfortunately inherited my husband's heart genes. Since her uncle, my husband, hasn't ever had a phantom shock I am glad to see (well not glad per se) that others have had them and she isn't crazy. Has anyone found out why they happen and do they eventually go away?

Remember Mommas_boys, you have a whole support group of friends who know what you are going through and someone out here can help you through it. You are not crazy! :)
