Names for our ICD's or Diagnoses

0 Recommendations

I happened to notice today two posts on this, our site, referring to names. One named her ICD "Trigger" and another named her elusive arrhythmia "Eleanor".

I had my SCA with no earlier heart issues on 9/5/09 with my ICD implanted a few days later. I cringed at thinking of it as "my device", my new "boarder" or really the creature from Aliens. Within a couple days, I settled on thinking of it as "Skippy" - little tiny dude with little tiny paddles ready to squeak "clear!" as needed.
I understand (I think) why we personalize or anthropomorphize - it makes it easier to adapt, to live with it, a little more comfortable and perhaps less frightening.

Someone told me I should re-name Skippy to something more dramatic or meaningful like Phoenix rising from the ashes - i said I had quiet enough drama and meaning already.

Anyone else name their Skippy's????

I have a cat named Sparky. I named my ICD Little Sparky. He has been busy lately. Three shocks in three weeks.
