My experience with ICD implant

0 Recommendations

Hey everyone,
I am home! I actually came home yesterday, but was having alot of pain with my right side and breathing. It was excruciating. Everything was fine untinl midnight after surgery and I started having pressure pain when I breathed in. Xrays were okay so they sent me home. An hour or so later at home, I couldn't rest on my bed, it was like knives and terrible, unexplainable jabs. We called and were told to come back to the ER and had another xray which showed fluid on my right lung building since that morning. Then on to CAT scan which thankfully showed no clots. So they put me back in to just get me comfortable and improve my pain. By then I was standing and leaning on the walls to keep from crying. I was so relieved when I received the first shot of ?dilaudid? sp. I finally got some rest and shots every two hours. What relief! Yesterday mornings xray showed more fluid but I was under control with the pain and they sent me home with meds until Monday. So far, so good. The pain from my right side has completely made me forget my icd implant, It was tested in the hospital, and had to pace for 35 percent of the time, so it has already been put to good use. My body can already tell it is working, my pulse is up and everything seems to be working like clockwork. Anyway, I should find out more soon about the other stuff. Calling Dr. tomorrow! Thanks for wondering and thinking of me. Vicki

Wow sorry to hear you were having fluid problems. Fluid in lungs does hurt. Did you get the pacemaker/defib ICD?
Are you on lasix? Take it easy keep the left arm down and rest rest rest.... Update us when you can.
Cathy

Hey Cathy,
Yes, I did get the defibrillator/pacemaker combination.
A St. Jude Dual. Someone will come to my house to set up a way to read it over the phone. Wow, the medical community has come such a long way. Does anyone else have this?
No Lasix, and I am trying to keep the arm down, Did you use the arm shoulder band to help. I am not sure if I should be resting or up walking to keep the fluid down. I call the Dr. tomorrow. Thanks for the help! Vicki

Hi Vicki
I have a Boston Scientific CRT-D. I have 3 leads. My dr isn't giving me the over the phone thingy. I go to his office now every few months and the rep is there to read and adjust it. I live about 20 min from the dr office.
I only used the sling when I went out in public (basically no one bumps you then) and the band around my waist with the sling at night. The last 2 weeks I just used the band (no arm in sling) and had my arm to my side- more comfortable for me. The first week dr wanted me to do pretty much NOTHING.. the leads need to adhire. Also if they didn't tell you, I wore my bra all the time- it really helped with the pulling (gravity) issue.
Oh did you get showering and cleaning the incision instructions??

Don't let the fluid thing go.... if you have any questions, just ask
Cathy

Hi,
I am new to this, and just read some posts. I can understand what you are going through. The first two weeks I rough on me, and when I came home from surgery, I have noone to help me around here. I felt horrible and was in pain, and did not want to doing anything after I got my ICD in for the first week. All I wanted to do was stay in bed, but my friends pushed me and pushed me to get moving or otherwise I would be stiff. I listened to their advice. Two weeks have gone by, and its getting better each day. However, its getting old sleeping on my back.
