Medtronic Home Monitor

0 Recommendations

Hi everyone,
I just have a question that we can't seem to get answered. My husband has the Medtronic Home monitor for his defib/pacemaker. It clicks sporadically during the night. Medtronic said they thought it was doing program updates? No one knows or says why it clicks. Of course I hear every beep and click and quickly check to make sure my husband is OK. He, of course, doesn't hear it at all. If anyone else has experienced this I would love to hear from you.

My husband also has the Medtronic Home Link, but it does not make any noise at all. We had our first automatic transmission a couple of weeks ago, and we did not even know that it had taken a reading and transmitted. I know that they can change out the boxes, and reprogram them at Medtronic. He has only had his since July so I don't know how old your box is. I do know what you mean about sleep though. It is hard to come by for me as well since my husband had his SCA. I think I'd ask Medtronic to get it replaced.

I've been monitored since Nov of 07,and have never heard any noises. I awaken several times each night, & rely on my TV to rock me back to sleep. My monitor is within 2 feet of my ear and I have'nt ever heard anything. I also would recommend having them replace it!

Maridee. Hi, my name is Ed Blanchard and I live in Gilbert, too. I am an SCA survivor and have just read your story. It occurs to me that this event is tougher on the spouses (my wife, you) than on us. Anyway, I saw your question about the Medtronic home monitor. The clicking sounds you hear may be the modem (the part of the monitor that has a telephone dialing capability) sending a report to your husband's cardiologist. Have you talked with the Medtronic people yet? They are very helpful and can probably answer this question for you.

I have had my ICD for a little over a month now and am very confident of its "watchful eye" on me.

I hope you are your husband can gain the confidence to get back to traveling, even if its just around the state.

I leave mine in its box and only turn it on and connect it to the phone line when I need to transmit.

My husband has had his since march, I've never heard a click, not even on transmission nights.

Hi LYDJAHH ! I strongly suggest you leave your monitor on and available all the time. I've had to use mine a couple of times to communicate in a medical "emergency" when my ICD fired at home, once on the way home. Also if yours is like my Latitude Monitor it is monitoring your battery level regularly but only if is turned on. My problem has been with me since the mid 90's with first a pacemaker and then an ICD. My SCA implant was in '07 30 days after the ICD implant,(great timing), followed by several CHF's.

Best to you. Vince P.
