I'm HOME after St. Jude Dual ICD implant

0 Recommendations

Hey everyone,
I am home! I actually came home yesterday, but was having alot of pain with my right side and breathing. It was excruciating. Everything was fine until midnight after surgery and I started having pressure pain when I breathed in. Xrays were okay so they sent me home. An hour or so later at home, I couldn't rest on my bed, it was like knives and terrible, unexplainable jabs. We called and were told to come back to the ER and had another xray which showed fluid on my right lung building since that morning. Then on to CAT scan which thankfully showed no clots. So they put me back in to just get me comfortable and improve my pain. By then I was standing and leaning on the walls to keep from crying. I was so relieved when I received the first shot of ?dilaudid? sp. I finally got some rest and shots every two hours. What relief! Yesterday mornings xray showed more fluid but I was under control with the pain and they sent me home with meds until Monday. So far, so good. The pain from my right side has completely made me forget my icd implant, It was tested in the hospital, and had to pace for 35 percent of the time, so it has already been put to good use. My body can already tell it is working, my pulse is up and everything seems to be working like clockwork. Anyway, I should find out more soon about the other stuff. Calling Dr. tomorrow! Thanks for wondering and thinking of me. Vicki

I am so sorry that you are having so many problems. My husband had the same brand of ICD and he has not had any problems at all, so I hope things will settle down for you. It must be discouraging to have all this go on when you have been so excited about getting the ICD. I will be praying that everything will go well with you. Remember that you are a special person! Let us know how things go.

Thanks Diane,
I feel much better today. I am probably just feeling the normal soreness on the side of the ICD. Hopefully now everything will go well. Thanks for the encouragement! Vicki

Vickie,
Glad to hear that you are doing better. All of this can be really rough-especially at the first. I know Steve's ICD place was sore for quite awhile. But it has healed really well.
Diane

Hope things are improving with you Tch, sounds like you've been through the wringer on this one. I too wondered about the use of lasix with your follow up procedures. Hang in there and keep us updated.

Hi Vicki -- Glad you got your ICD, sorry you had some problems, my husband has the same one too. He was sore for about a week I guess but so far so good. He still hasn't returned to work but that has a lot more to do with his anxiety than anything else. He has a stressful job and already returned once for a week. He is going to try it again on the 27th.

Good luck to you and if you need to talk, I am here.

Carol

Don,
Thanks for the comments.
Yeah, there were a few rough days. I'm getting better everyday. I am not sure about the lasix, but it seems like I have been told that I can't have lasix because of my low potassium and lqt. I have a doctor's appt. tomorrow. Hopefully, it will all be good.

Hi Carol,
Thanks for the thoughts. It really helps to know others are going through similar things. I was like your husband and returned for work for one week. I teach and it was too much, too soon. I am ready to try again when school starts back the first of August. I am praying that I will be ready.
Vicki

Sounds like you're getting better and doing so with a positive attitude Vicki. I know we all wish you a full recovery. Stay strong, its the best defence we have.

Andrew,
I am feeling better and looking forward to hopefully being healthier than I have in years. Has anyone else ever felt better than before? I really hope so,. the past few years have seemed so exhausting.
Hope to here from you soon!
Vicki
